The last time I came over was in October and I payed my water bill (to date) set up a direct debit for the electric through the bank and then paid my Turkish equilivant of the coucil tax. For the life of me I can't remember where I paid it the Tax (Is the office near the Gima Supermarket?) and I'm wondering how much would I be expected to pay? As I'm sure that it should have been paid in April.
Thanks all.
-
Above Gima ....same building as you pay your water bill but at the counters on the opposite side (the left as you go in) It is about half way down and has a sign above saying "Emlak Servisi" It is not essential but does help if you have your tax number with you. It is peanuts and if you do get charged for late payment it is even smaller peanuts. I think you have until the end of this month anyway. :)
-
Thanks t'elder,
Its playing on my mind a bit.. Thats right I remember it now you say the counter on the opposite side.

In the two years that we have had our house we have not paid any council tax unless it was done while we were there on other business with a Turkish friend helping us. It is good to know that it is not too expensive. Shall have to check next month.

Our council tax has doubled this year. Gone up to 125 YTL!!!!!
WW.
-
Ours more than doubled this year too.
It's still a small fraction of what we pay here though.

Hi All
We paid last week. It is in the Beledeyise office over Gima and diagonally to the left as Tribalelder said. We took a copy of our Tapu and did the business in less than 5 minutes. This was our first payment since we got our Tapu in April 2005 but it was dated Feb 2005. The receipt for 80 YTL (3 bedroom duplex) was not itemised but we think a late payment fine might be included. They could fine us every time in England if they charged £32 instead of £1400. 8)
Ken and Sue
p.s We later learned that you can also pay at the sub office on the corner near the police station in Gunlukbasi where we paid our water bill.
-
Thanks for that info Ken, that would be easier for us as the police staion is only a 5 minute walk from ours!
-
If you live at the Koca Calis end then you pay at Ciftlik and not Fethiye - just for info.

We paid ours recently and our tax has doubled .
What we are not sure of is both the wife and i had a tax card.
We took them both to the beledeyse and obviously paid for both.
We are not sure if that is correct or we should only have paid for one as we only own 1 house.
Two names on Tapu ,does this effect anything?
So opinions should we pay for 1 or 2
-
Two I believe if there are 2 names on the Tapu. We both paid although I am not sure if you each pay half of the whole that one person would pay - if you understand.

Hi Potters
Sue and I were sent by the bank to an office on the Migros to Calis road to obtain a tax number each. This was to enable us to change an account from Sue's name to a joint account. However our tax number cards played ABSOLUTELY NO PART in paying our council tax.

Kenkay
Sorry i have confused you i did not mean tax cards .i meant council tax ards.
We both had one and assumed we both had to pay.
Im still not sure if we payed double what we should have .
-
I think you will find joint ownership on your Tapu does result in two bills being generated but not that you pay any more in total. How they apportion the two bills is anyone's guess....ours certainly were not 50/50. The amount is so small I don't think it is worth worrying about. :)
-
Just paid for the last two years 104 ytl including fine.
-
Hi Ronzeus
Do you have any idea how much of the 104YTL the fine was?
Ken
-
Just under 12 ytl Ken.
-
We paid ours this week. 115ytl, that's for two names on the tapu. We paid last year too although I can't remember the exact amount.
Interesting point tribalelder re the two payments but only amounting to what is owed. I'm not too sure of this one, kenkay is on the same complex as us yet he paid 35ytl less than us???

These council tax payments that everyone has made. Is that for the full year or only 1/2? as I understand council tax is paid in 2 parts, March and October.
Gordon
-
Yes Payments should be made twice a year. You do have about a two month window to make these payments. :)
-
Thanks everyone.. I paid my water bill (4 YTL!!) and my tax with the late payment fine (37 YTL) Feel better.
-
Is there any way to find out how much we should be paying? Can we ask at the Beledyie offices? Everyone seems to be paying different amounts for similar properties.
Anne
-
3 bed det villa cost 65tl,maybe it is half yearly
doll
-
Like Ann we found that everyone on our development paid different amounts-and with our luck we ended up paying the most!
We think that it depended on when each of us bought -obviously those that bought earlier paid less and then the developer reduces the amount declared to the Belediye. Our tax this year for 3 bed villa in Ovacik £50.50
-
That is correct. Council tax payable is directly linked to property value. I think I am right in saying that in a recent article in The land of Lies, oops I mean Lights, it is 0.1% of the declared value on your Tapu.
I also heard recently you do not receive a bill, it is up to you to go to the council when payment is due, and tell them the value of your property. Sounds a bit odd to me, although I believe they have a pretty good idea of your property value.
So unless all your neighbours, living in exactly the same properties, have the same declared values on their Tapu's everyone will pay a different amount of council tax, for exactly the same service,ie emptying rubbish bins.
Happy Days, keep taking the tablets, one day it will seem right!!
Cheers,
Gordon

Tax is indeed .1% of declared value on Tapu and not the purchase price but the environmental charge (i.e. bin emptying etc) I think is now collected through the water bills.
-
We went to the Belediye today to pay our Council Tax, we were told that we don`t have to pay anything for the 1st year (only got our Tapu in March) but we were charged 40YTL for the name change, 4 Tapu`s x 10YTL.
The young lady told us to come back next May.

Nice one Crabbit,
I also got my Tapu in March, and was also under the impression that we did not pay anything for the first year after the sale is completed. I checked with my agent who told me they had paid my council tax for me for 2006 when the Tapu went through.
I should be so lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky.
-
Please could some kind soul let me know when/how often the council tax needs to be paid? Also, what is its name in Turkish? Muchas gracias, diolch yn fawr etc. etc.
-
once a year and tax in turkish is vergi and council is meclis.hope that helps
-
Yes, it does! Many thanks, puma!
-
also the council tax is calculated on how many names are on the tapu, my neighbour got a shocked when they had to pay more for theirs has it had 2 names on and the other neighbour had 4 names
-
Paellataffy....Council tax may be paid annually but you have the option to pay half in April and half in October if you wish. It seems most Turkish people do it this way. :)
-
This is what the Council told us http://www.fethiyetimes.org.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=29&Itemid=58. There's information on the page about the other Council activities too.

Thanks! This makes it a lot clearer!
