Somewhere in Turkey to go in March
« on: January 08, 2009, 12:44:47 PM »
Can anyone recommend a place worth visiting in March that is not cold and is within travelling distance of Fethiye but which could include a couple of night stop over. I have thought of Istanbul but the threat of snow makes me think it would be be best to go later in the year. Any suggestions?

Twin Bee  - How about Cappaddocia - although I guess it will still be quite cold...

Great place to go Pookie but it will still be very cold at that time of year.
Ephesus would be my suggestion as the mass tourists are not there then and the weather will be similar to Fethiye. You could also include Pammukale on a round trip.

Excellent idea Fi - we went to Ephesus in March a couple of years ago and it was superb weather.  bright and sunny and very good walking conditions. And what a pleasure to have the place to ourselves !!

Thanks Gordon - Been there and done that many times but I must admit it never gets boring!
Thanks everyone else. I think Ephesus is a real possibility but I am also wondering about any nearby islands. Is it possible to fly to Rhodes as presumably the hovercraft does not run in March.

You can get to Rhodes during the winter on a ferry from Marmaris so it's another possibility for you.
You can also get to Meis on Selo's boat, from Kas, but not too sure if any accomodation will be open at that time of year and it's very small.

What about Antalya? 4 hours drive and same temperature as here. Brilliant all inc. Hotels and Spa. Very cheap. Visit the waterfall at Dudu. Breathtaking.

How about Karahayit next to Heiropolis and Pammukale. Its a hot water spa and the hotels do really good deals. Really good for getting rid of aches and pains and you can walk round Pammukale in the quiet cool season. On the way back stop for shopping at Denizli. About 2 and a half hours easy drive away. Did it last year and had a wonderful time and will be doing it again this year on my return from the UK
