Depending on the time of year, there are as many as 5 flights a day between Dalaman and Istanbul.

The hotel Tashkonak, just behind the Blue Mosque is very good.

The Sultanahmet district is a favorite area to stay in as it has some of the main tourist attractions, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the Hippodrome, Kapali Carsi (covered market) etc. Plus plenty of hotels and bars.

Went and had a look at the Hotels on www.tripadvisor.com  There seem to be so many good ones we are spoilt for choice.  Even the B.&.B.'s look great one in particular is a Boutique Hotel that gets a very good write up.   The one mentioned by KayaKoyuOldBoy is number 26 in popularly and looks good too.  Don't know where to start.
Jacqui.

So jacqui, where did you end up staying ?   Tell us all about your trip !   We are planning a 3 or 4 day trip in April and we'd love any recommendations you can give.

Hi Pookie stayed in the Sirkeci Konak http://www.sirkecikonak.com/  which was fabulous cannot fault it. Great room with balcony. Lovely roof terrace with bar and restaurant with sun loungers views across the gardens to Topkapi Palace and also lovely views of the cruise liners in the opposite direction.   Swimming pool, sauna and fitness centre in basement and free afternoon tea from 3pm to 5pm every day.
Book three days or more and get free taxi pick up at airport and free three course meal the first night with a choice of their two restaurants.  Also visited their sister hotel the Orient Express and had a fab dinner at their roof restaurant looking out over the water and bridges.   Loved the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace, also there is a gift shop in the grounds of Topkapi run by the government that was extremely cheap and everything was price tagged.  Hated the Grand Bazzar too in your face.  Need to go back to Istanbul as four days is not enough.

The site www.turkeytravelplanner.com has details of how you can travel by metro, bus and ferry around the city. The metro runs to Ataturk Airport and it cost about 3TL to get to the Sultanhamet area. The Havas bus runs every 20-30 minutes from the Sabihe Gokcen airport into the city, this service starts about 4a.m.

Just come back from spending 5 days in Istanbul.Stayed in the Sultanahmet area.Absolutely fantastic. The hotel was within 5mins walk of all the Tourist attractions. We also did a city tour on open decked bus and a cruise down the Bosphorus. Need to go another time though and stay in Taksim Square area, still plenty to do.

The 29th is Republic Day when there are celebrations with street concerts and a huge firework display.
