I agree with you Nichola, not a lot to see at Truva(Troy).
I enjoyed the short boat trip from Canakkale to Kilitbahir though. There were dolphins playing in the water as we waited for the boat.
There is a silhouette carved into the mountain of a soldier which is nearly 60 metres high that you sail past.He is a Mehmetcik(little Mehmet).
Lord Byron was also supposed to have swum across here too in 1810.

Unfortunatly the trip never happened - not enough people to make it viable. A shame, but hopefully Ilknur will try again later in the year as I for one would have loved to have gone...

I spent a week at Cannakele in August 2007. I went alone by choice as my wife is not interested in military history, but I am, and particularly the first world war, and having read many books on  the turkish involvement, wanted to see the area, and the beaches where the invasions took place, and the war museums. It was , for me an interesting and very emotional experience. In fairness, if you are not interested in the military history of the area...then its a long way to travel.
Cannakale, where I stayed during the week  is a very nice town, very similar to Fethiye along its harbour front.
But I agree with the above posts regarding Troy...  disappointing
