Hi Al if it is sent recorded delivery and you are not in they will leave a slip of paper with collection office details on it.

I've used Parcels2Go for my last couple - both quite large and heavy - they both arrived safely one took 10 days one took 6 and were delivered to my front door.

There is no such thing as Recorded Delivery outwith U.K. It's International Signed For, for anything going abroad.  I use it all the time.  Parcel has a number and is tracked within the U.K. if anything happens to it, it will be covered and you can claim from the P.O.  If you kept your receipt.
Also, keep in mind that companies such as Parcels2Go will not cover Glass, Ceramics, Antiques in fact a long, long list of goods.
