Marmaris????.... September 22nd 2012
« on: October 01, 2012, 11:14:30 AM »
September was just wonderful. Good to be in the sun, good to sleep, good to travel.

Found a two night stay in Marmaris, through http://www.booking.com/ Some great room prices what ever your choice of class. When we have headed that way we have been drawn to stopping for Kahvalti / Brunch at Caglayan Pinarbasi Restaurant, just after the Jandarma check point in Cetibeli Koyu, about 10k from Marmaris. No menu but pictures and no hassle help. One of those places Turks use at the weekends.  The main road to Marmaris from the turn off at Gokova is now all proper tarmac.

Found our Hotel Dost on the second road back from the prom 67 t room per night including Turkish Breakfast. Old Hotel modernized over winter; clean rooms, friendly staff.  The Hotel suited our needs perfectly.

Our wander round saw that the prom has been upgraded and was good to be on. As you look towards the sea, in our view turn right and you are in Hotel land and the noise, though there are some impressive looking new 5* hotels turn left and you head towards the old part the harbour and the marina, not forgetting the bazaar. This is end of September and it was a good place to be. July / August/ Never been at that time. The mix of languages was amazing including a little English. The night atmosphere was buzzing but not noisy a little more sophisticated too. Restaurants and bars to suit all tastes and price are around the marina and the old Town.
Our choice to eat was the classier Turkish Restaurant Kircicegi. The Iskender was the best to date by far. Interesting story with the restaurant too, all 15 branches being ran by family members, locations include Izmir and Istanbul. Not listed but on asking beer and a wine was ordered.

Sunday saw us off to Icmeler which was the first place we visited in Turkey some 20 years ago. Yes it’s grown but again has a good feel to it and the improvements make it a good place for many for holidays. The worst of Icmeler is when you see it from the mountain road, not a pretty sight. Then off to one of our favorite areas the Bosburun Peninsular. Bayir to walk around the Plane tree a few times just to ensure, if what they say is true we add a few years to our life. Turgut then Selimiye, stuck in time and in a selfish way one hopes it can stay that way what a beautiful natural village.
Our choice for lunch was the shaded Bademmanti Restaurant. Don’t remember seeing this when we were last here, a great place to eat. We shared the Fresh Tomato Soup, Cig Borek, and just had to try the Manti- Cikolatali. Manti dishes are all made from scratch and take 20 minutes.

Then even Hisaronu looked fabulous, have a walk on water as you do and back to Marmaris.  We ate at the Ali Baba Restaurant on the main road in/out of Marmaris, Ulsal Egemenlik Cd. Turkish Restaurant, and Iskender at 12 t great place. Then off to the Kordon to soak up some international atmosphere and a little alcohol.

Monday and on our way home, planned a revisit to Dalyan which was good, There we leveled out our Turkish eating weekend with a light Chinese lunch. Then we took the highly recommended trip to Iztuzu as per the new Driving Guide posted by Nichola on CBF. The trip to Iztuzu Beach by the road is well worth the effort. We added our comments to the post

In our view Marmaris at this time of year is a great centre to stay and so many places to visit Bosburun Peninsular, Gokova, Datca Sidir Adasi, and Turunc. We have never paid a visit to the Marmaris Castle though.   :)   ;) 8)
        Hotel Dost.  Imaginary 7*
        Plane Tree bayir

I assume it's Orhaniye. A "sand bar" (actually small pebbles) goes 2/3rd of the way across the bay.

Would love to say No, it's just knack but you know that place and most likley the story. However:-

Its named Kizkumu ( Girl Sand) and approx 600 mt of sand. The legend is.

"The girl who wanted to meet with her lover put some sand in the hem of her skirt and planned to fill the sea with this sand to get to her lover. However, there was not enough sand and she was drowned"

quote courtesy of MUGLA guide. Oct 2005

Just a fantastic area to be.
