Do not stay at the Didsbury one - it's used as a knocking shop!! The two Premier inns nearest the airport are both very good.

There re several near airport. Altrincham is nice also two around Knutsford near M6 junction.
have stayed in both of these when going to weddings at The Mere.
Most Travel Lodges that are not new have been refitted this year.

Update   ---    Moto Service area Junction 18/19  Knutsford 08719846153  also ones we stayed at
A556 Chester Road and A50. All about 15-20 mins from airport max. Call in at any Travel Lodge near your home and they will give you a list/map of all trvel Lodges. we keep one in glove box all the time for inpromtude stay overs

To get to the Travel Lodge at Knutsford Services you will have to go south on the M6 and back up again to access it. I wouldn't bother with that personally unless you have a reason to stick to Travel Lodge. If you do then Altrincham and Didsbury are also a bit of a faff to get to. Adlington is not far but in the wrong direction.

Personally I would recommend a Premier Inn, there are two (referred to as Manchester Airport North and South but they are next to each other) - they are just by the airport Freight Terminal virtually on the airport site but right next to the entry sliproad for the M56 which will take you up to the M6 Northbound.

We stayed in the Premier Inn at Heald Green which was a mile from the airport

Thanks for all the valuable info.Looks like Knutsford for me,about £50 cheaper than premier inn
and gets me onto m6 (altho in the wrong direction) for a quick return to sunny Scotland after a
couple of hours sleep.Wouldnt normally bother but the thought on driving 4 hours after flying back
and getting to Manchester at 2 am is not for me!Must be getting old!
