A Tale of Two Airports
« on: July 23, 2015, 00:11:41 AM »
I can't forget the story of the couple who paid £60 for two snacks and a couple of drinks each (two Efes, two wine) at Dalaman and ended up having to pay 60 quid!! (Fethiye Times story HERE )

We had the greatest breeze through check in and passport control/security in my entire airport weary life at Cancun. We were warned to expect the worst - chaos, queuing out the door etc and allowed time for that. When none of it happened we were through, done and dusted with time to kill.

We decided to use the facilities of a pleasant looking bar/snack bar which was both comfortable and absolutely unrushed service (this sort of meal/ visit is not something our children have ever had the experience of at Dalaman in all their years of passing through  ;) ).

As most people who know me in Turkey will be aware, I don't eat on the day we fly home, ever. So...

1x Chicken Wrap
1x Large toasted cheese & ham sandwich
1x Chips for the sharing of (ok I may have had one)
1x Large Coke
1x Large Sprite
1x Beer
1x White wine

10% service charge/tip for Alberto

Paid in Pesos on my Halifax Clarity card.Got my CC statement...drum roll....

£20.40

It was packed - it was difficult to see an empty table at some times, and strangely there were loads of empty seats in the general/public seating areas.

Alberto was busy, adding up all his 10% tips, we were relaxed and appreciated a chance to relax, a bit of comfort and good service, and I assume the restaurant was coining it in.

So why aren't they doing exactly this at Dalaman?

Because they're short-sighted Turks and, of course, they know best.
