Turkish bank accounts ?
« on: December 04, 2005, 21:37:23 PM »
any advice on turkish bank accounts would be greatly appreciated
we are due to go over in April to furnish our new apartment
and feel it would be a good time  to open a bank account, mainly
for the payment of the local utilities etc

are there any crafty charges we should be aware of or pitfalls to
 avoid ?

internet access would be great if any provide that

thanks in advance

Take a look here David.

{A Link to an old CBF topic was here - no longer available}2238&SearchTerms=best,banks

Also make use of the search facility at the top of the page and you'll find plenty of reading material.

Thanks for the link Anne, i notice the original posts were over a year ago, can i ask? did you decide  to go with finansbank or Garanti
i would appreciate access to statements over the net, maybe Finansbank have that facility now, a year down the line.

Hiya,
Can anyone confirm that Finansbank DO allocate a tax number automatically when you open an account and that you need one for a high interest account?
Also, is it possible yet to access internet banking in Turkey properly to move money around, locally or from the UK?
If anyone has Ayse's email address please email me, as I never get a reply..except a general one saying phone xxxxxx.
Last Q am I right in thinking you can only get a Turkish Lira atm card, but which atm's accept it here in the UK.

Hi Tel,
Finansbank will apply for your tax number no problem
you can get access to their web banking just ask for access and they will phone you with codes.
your bank card can be used anywhere and at any bank you do have to have an address in turkey to get a bank card, a bank here in the uk who does not charge for obtaining your money using the card is nationwide
contact Gozde Derin at finansbank fethiye branch email: gozde.derin@finansbank .com.tr she speaks very good english and will sort out every thing i think i have covered everything if not please let me know.
regards
Gunna

Thank you Chris (Gunna),
I have emailed (yet again) to your supplied one, fingers crossed.
Having read so many conflicting reports on here, I wondered what the end product..currently was.
So are you saying your sterling account only, issues a card which you can access here in the Uk.
Or do you have one via your Turkish account(as I have read on the forum somewhere lol)?
But can you yet, using their internet banking, send money out to Turkey?
cheers 4now
