arriving 7th April for 13 days, picking up a family car at airport. We are based in Ovacik, and most of our driving around will be centred around Ovacik, Hisaronu, Olu and Fethiye, with maybe one day trip out and a trip to Dalyan. Do you recommend diesel or petrol?? Diesel car is £3 more per day to hire, so would cost us around £40 more over the course of the fortnight, not sure we would actually spend this much more in petrol if we bought a petrol car?? any ideas please...thanks xxx

Petrol. Unless you plan to do a serious mileage no advantage with diesel.

Same as John says. Go for petrol.

thanks guys...I suspected this would be the answer....no heavy driving, just up and down the mountain this year :))

I am with John, go with the petrol, you would have to seriously spend on fuel to override the extra £40 for a diesel car. I think the differential at the moment between diesel and petrol pump prices are about 45 kurus per litre.

This is an interesting one. If you are going up and down the mountain (Uzumlu?) on a regular basis as I do then I find the extra power/torque of a diesel is much better able to cope than the weedy petrol fuelled Albeas/Clios. Not done any cost comparison checks but there wont be a huge difference between the two. After 8 years of renting my choice would be diesel for my particular circumstances every time.

But they're not going up and down the hill to Uzumlu on a regular basis !

But it does look like they are going up the steeper hills from Fethiye to Ovacik and Olu to Hissy though ;) Still go for the petrol though.

Some hire cars are multi fuel ,petrol, gas,or diesel gas to run on gas is by far a lot, lot, cheaper than petrol which is abit dearer than diesel, when I hire a car I always try to get one that uses gas as well good luck.
