Title: Wow - now we can ALL speak Turkish!!
Post by: Ian on March 26, 2010, 16:52:49 PM
I stumbled across this - it is brilliant!

The key is:

1. Type one sentence at a time
2. Do not use symbols - hyphens etc.
3. Then just copy and paste into your letter / e-mail
Note: It struggles with "I" at the beginning of your sentence - so ignore it when you copy and paste

You can all talk to your friends and neighbours now - we are fluent!

http://translate.google.com/#tr or should I say:

Tüm komsularina simdi konusabilirsiniz - biz akici vardir

Ian

Ps It even puts all the dots in on the individual letters for you

or should I say
Hatta sizin için tek tek harfleri tüm nokta koyar :D :D :D

I might try English to Russian and see if I can communicate with all those young, blonde, cat like Russian women that keep sending me offers of marriage by e-mail now :D :D

Both of the translators are crap. Just tried to convert something simple like "mehmet was working' but it couldnt figure out the "was".
Trick is to never rely on these online translators.

I meant from Turkish to English the translation is pretty poor and also judging by the translations above it is still not accurate. Badgers post is a typical example. It may be fun but dont rely on it for accurate translations. Its the same if you went from German to English.
Try writing a sentence then translate to turkish then to german then to french then back to english and see if you have the same sentence.

It might not be grammatically perfect but it does allow you to communicate with a Turkish person who has no English......how often do we hear a Turk whose grammar is all to pot with gaps in their vocabulary yet we understand them perfectly well. Don't be over critical of anything that helps! :)

Brian - as always absolutely correct
(her zaman oldugu gibi kesinlikle dogru)

And it slips my mind the last time I walked into town and bumped in to a German, a Frenchman and a Turk  ;)

I agree Kapitan, translation is very bad.
For example "Asagidaki ödenmeyen faturalarla ilgilenir misin. 2009 yilindan kalanlarin acilen kapatilmasi gerekiyor hesaplari kapatamiyorum." turns out to be "Would you be interested in the following unpaid bills. In 2009, the rest can not close their accounts should be closed immediately."

Totally wrong.

Sounds quite accurate to me - it was something to do with Greece wasn't it!!!

Seriously - I think putting small phrases (just a few words)gives those of us trying to understand the language a little spark occasionally so we can work out what we are trying to work out.

Actually no Ian, it was nothing to do with Greece but an internal email. It says, can you look at the below unpaid invoices, The ones from 2009 need to be closed urgently as I cant close these accounts.
