I have a uk phone from my old contract in the uk, due to the cost of phones in Turkey is it possible when I come to Turkey I can get it activated onto a turkish pay as you go contract as we have a turkish phone on a pay as you go contract, Its just the phone is very old.

You need to register it else it'll only work for a week or so. Do a forum search, someone did this recently and posted instructions.

Fiirst you have to go and pay the tax on it at the Malhiye office approx 130tl, then register it at one of the bigger Turkcell shops 40tl, I did this with a freind 3 weeks ago.

Phones are not expensive in Turkey we have a basic Turkish Mobile and I think (but don't quote me ) It was around 90 TL with a card in in.

Go to one of the phone shops on the back road out of Fethiye and buy a second-hand phone and a SIM. You shouldn't have to pay more than 80 TL in total.

As everyone else has said, it's really not worth the hassle, buy a cheap reconditioned Turkish phone instead.
I had a friend bring me a new phone out from the UK a couple of years ago, as it was considerable cheaper - however by the time I had paid the tax and got it registered in his name (must be done within 30 days of entering the country) I could have bought one here for not much more and saved us both the run around.
