Nanny State?
« on: April 29, 2018, 07:34:10 AM »
Minimum pricing for alcohol comes into force next week in Scotland.  This article on the BBC highlights some of the pending price increases:

I suspect the health ministers of England and Wales will be following the results closely, given that minimum pricing of alcohol has support amongst some MP's. Northern Ireland may be the next, if their chief medical officer gets his way.

I wonder if it'll really make a difference to the 'hard' drinkers ?

I don't think it will make any difference at all.
If an alcoholic needs a drink they will get it at any cost.

Exactly Anne - and just like fags it just means people on benefits/low income will simply have less to spend on food etc for themselves and their families.

It won't affect me, I'm in England more weeks than not so it will be like the old Dover to Calais booze cruises without the ferry  :)

Unwanted intervention by people who know best and feel compelled to inflict their views on the rest of us. It makes them feel useful

and less guilty for extorting huge salaries from the public purse.         >:( >:(

"The new law is not a tax and does not generate income for the government. Instead its aims it to reduce the availability of cheap alcohol by setting a floor price."

So where exactly does the extra dosh go then? : :)
