Confiscated liquids
« on: June 20, 2018, 07:46:29 AM »
Does anyone know what happens to all the toiletries etc that are taken off people at airport security?  The women in front of us caused quite a delay trying to go through with a carrier bag full of stuff like shower gel, shampoo, sun creams etc - all clearly over size and a tied up carrier bag does not equal a sealed bag!  I just wondered what happens to these goods as most are new/unopened?

Depends which airport, and which country.

In the UK liquids are mainly sent for destruction although I read something a while back that some airports are selling off other items on ebay  :)

In the US as far as I know the TSA sends everything for destruction.

Somehow I don't think the same rules apply in Turkey  ;)  I've seen the looks of glee (on some folks faces) in Istanbul when they are confiscating what is potentially a high value item... so who knows.  Probably divvied up at the end of a shift.  I wouldn't have a problem with that if it wasn't for the fact they're such a miserable bunch there, rude and aggressive at times when there's no need.

Staff will get their fill and anything left will be destroyed.
