Here's a tip as a follow-on from Blueclad's 'BA canceled our flights' thread.
If you look on the back of credit or debit cards or on company's websites you'll often see a number to contact them on when calling from outside the UK. In many cases I've found you get a much faster response, and there's less chance of being kept holding, if you use this number even when calling from the UK.
