Title: UK residents wishing to get married in Calis
Post by: Scurrminator on May 18, 2011, 13:07:12 PM
Hi all - looking for some information!
My partner and I are wanting to get married in Turkey when we visit in July.
I know people that live in Calis (my mum is very good friends with Ali Bozkurt and his family) and so will be able to get things going quite quickly once we arrive.
However I'm trying to get everything prepared before we go.
So far i know that we will need to take a certificate of no impediment obtained in the UK with us, full passport, birth certificate and 8 or 10 passport photos.
Once we arrive we need to go to the british consulate - the nearest one is in Fethiye i believe?
It's after this point that I'm unsure where we go. I've heard that we need to have a medical examination?
We'd ideally like to have someone come out to the beach to do the ceremony at sunset, along with one of our Turkish friends to translate if needed and a photographer.
So anyway, any help that people could provide - advice/info/funny stories would be great!

Thanks for the links!
I think the main worry is that we need to go to the British consulate when we arrive. I know there is one in Fethiye but not sure if that's the one we need to go to!

I think you may find that you have to go to Antalya as well unless that has changed!

It might be worth checking out with some of the organisations that "do weddings" here and find out what is involved and their costs - at least you'll have a full check list because there will be a charge for it all - and then you'll know what to do and can work out how much it will cost you to do it independantly.

Good luck  :)

Well we just want to have us two, registrar, photographer.
The big companies seem to be doing big events whereas we want something small and private. If there is a company that does that I'll happily hear about it!

I understand - all the beaurocracy will be the same though.

Sugar Beach Club have a pick and mix "menu" of wedding options - so you can choose what you want to have or not have.

SET WEDDING MENUS..

Here is our various set menus. However we have in total 10 set wedding menus to suit all budgets. You are not restricted to sticking with a particular set menu you can mix and match and we will price this accordingly..

Do you know if you only need to travel to the consulate once?
Or can we go to the Turkish embassy in the UK?

When my son got married here they had to travel to Antalya for a day visiting various offices, they got married at the Goldenmoon Hotel in Calis, the chefs son took them to Antalya and helped them with the paperwork, you could ask Ali to contact Mete who owns the Goldenmoon to find out what is required.

Hi Nick. My daughter is getting married at Sugar Beach Club, Olu Deniz on 1st June. There they have a wedding planner who arranges everything including the one only trip to Antalya. They arrange the civil ceremony for 18:00 hrs when the beach has been cleared, it's a little bit cooler and they can use the sunset in the wedding photos. We're already here and looking forward to the big day :D :D

I organise weddings here in Turkey for Anatolian Sky Holidays. If you call 0121 764 3550 and speak to Daisy, she can help with these queries and also tell you our package prices. We tailor make weddings, so a small, private wedding can easily be arranged.

My partner will call Daisy at some point this week just to have a chat. Thanks!

Does anyone know of a website or contact number for the Turkish marriage office?
It says they have a leaflet on the subject on the Embassy website, but i cannot find any information about such a place!

Natalie can also deal with weddings if Daisy is not in when you call. I have never seen a leaflet as you describe.

Hi Lissa.
My partner spoke to Daisy today briefly. One thing that she mentioned was that we'd need to go to the consulate twice. As far as I'm aware this is not the case and everything that needs doing can be done in one day.

A board member told me that they had to do the following:
You need to go to the British consul to do the paperwork and handover the fees, then to the governer's office to get the paperwork certified.
You'd then head back to Fethiye to the registry office to arrange a date and time.
Then off to the health office for the medical and then back to the registry office to secure the booking.

I'm not aware of having to go back to the consul? Unless it is something to do with registering the marriage back in the UK?

Yes, you go to the consulate in Antalya for paperwork to get married, then to the consulate in fethiye after the wedding to register the marriage. Think this is what she must have meant when she said 2 visits! We have been doing weddings in Turkey for a number of years now and I personally organise everything here in Turkey and go with clients to Antalya etc. We do not just send them with a driver, and they do not deal with lots of different people  organising their wedding as we think this is too stressful.Much better to deal with just one person and explain what you want once! I am always around to answer any questions.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible for us to register the marriage ourselves when we return to the UK?
Wedding companies seem to be charging around £100 for this but if it's something we can do cheaper on our return I'd rather do that.

Just wanted to thank all for the help.
Ali sorted everything for us and we managed to get all the legal bits done in a day and marry the following day.
Bit of a whirlwind but all good!

Bit of a thread resurrection! I am wanting to get the words that the registrar used in our ceremony printed for a gift and unfortunately have been unable to find the video of the event (another problem in itself!). I have looked online and been unable to find anything. We didn't ask for anything custom so it would have been whatever the standard wording is (translated of course). My memory of the day is hazy apart from my brother having to wear a robe and read the English version, after the Turkish, to us! Any help would be grand - thanks!
