After last week's fireworks - Wales run everything, Ireland get extra time winning drop goal, England go mad in Rome - will things be more predictable this weekend. Ireland should coast past Italy. But the worrying rumour is that Halfpenny (and his golden boot) will be out at Twickenham. That is not going to make Wales' job any easier.
-
TMO got it very wrong.
Wales were robbed of the try but the game was good to watch.
Lee Halfpenny's kicking would have made it a very different game tactically.
England started so much better and that was the only difference in the end (excluding the TMO).
-
You've gotta love the Welsh. They've got the excuse for losing before the game even starts.
-
Watched both games today and both Ireland and England deserved their wins.I believe TMO got it right it wasn’t a try .

Looks pretty conclusively to me that Anscombe beat Watson to touch down the loose ball. Did he have the ball under control ? - not sure but enough downward pressure under the old law. A definite try for me. England would have expected the decision in their favour were the roles reversed.

I guess playing 24 years of rugby under the "old" rules I would feel aggrieved had I not been awarded a try.
I don't fully understand why it wasn't given - there was "downward presuure" but it wasnt "under control" as such.
The recent Superbowl had a similar situation -
- "under control" seems to be the deciding factor.
Anyway, we won and onwards and upwards towards another triple crown and six nations trophy.
-
It was the under control aspect that swayed me
-
We wuz robbed! Only two people in the country believe that it wasn't a try: the TMO and SteveA. And the TMO has probably left the country and is in hiding somewhere. I guess England were the stronger team and hence deserved to win, even though they didn't score after the first quarter. Wales gave them a real battering in the last quarter but just couldn't finish it. Next we'll be on the road again over to Dublin - so that will be easy!
Who do you fancy for this afternoon? Both teams are capable of brilliant attacking breaks but also liable to great defensive disorganization. High scoring chaos do you think?
-
And SteveA hasn’t left the country!Would love Scotland to pull it off today but I have a feeling that the French will over run them early and keep them on the back foot.
-
Just watched replays from every angle possible,Watson definitely puts ball down a fraction before Anscome touches it.Anscome never had control over the ball at any point.Great TMO decision, means nowt now anyway ,we won and that’s that.
-
Looks like the ladies did a better job than the men. :)

So looking at the photo Watson has put the ball down and then taken his hands away to let Anscome to get his hand on it :) :) ;)
-
Good result for Scotland really enjoyed the game.H Anscome puts his hand on a different part of the ball.
-
I enjoyed that game.....not as much as you Highlander but a fine win.
England should have too much for both teams - should - but Ireland always worry me. There's at least 30 green shirts on the pitch when they play England.
-

You have to be in awe of SteveA's vivid imagination! Well done Scotland. Great first half for entertainment; dour struggle for the second half with Scotland showing their grit. I can imagine a Happy Highlander!
-
A win is a win as they say.
But not happy - we cannot play like that and hope to get anything against England or Ireland. Still far to many errors and we have to tighten the defence considerably.
-
"World Rugby have admitted that a mistake was made by the television match official (TMO) in Wales' 12-6 defeat by England". Thus confirming what everybody in the world of rugby knew - apart from two people!

But that is dead and gone. Today's news is that the most exciting player on view in the opening matches, Teddy Thomas, has been dropped, along with 8 other French players, following shenanigans in Edinburgh after the loss against Scotland.

Third Weekend
So how about the games this weekend? Despite losing 5 players who played against Scotland (for naughtiness), I still take France to beat Italy. But there is always the chance that the French may implode if the first quarter doesn't go well for them and we can enjoy Italy having a picnic.
Surely England have too much for Scotland although you wouldn't believe so if you can bear to listen to Eddie Jones' appalling nasal whine bigging them up as the All Blacks of the Northern Hemisphere.
I do hope that Wales do well since I've promised my Irish son-in-law that we can overturn them in Dublin - a bit optimistic of me that one! Perhaps if they are allowed to count all the tries they score things will go better.
-
England will win the Calcutta Cup by at least 15 points :( :( :(
I think Ireland v Wales will be very close.
PS If members are aware of my record on I Know The Score they will know to ignore the above predictions. :-[ :-[ :-[
-
Well France win at last, as expected, 34pts to 17. against Italy.
-
We are in the same Edinburgh hotel as the Scotland squad, here is my daughter Abbie with Johnny Gray last night.

In soccer Gauardiolo got told off for wearing a yellow ribbon. So how come rugby players get away with advertizing the French President? .... Yeah, yeah "Italian Sportswear" indeed! An obvious political scam.

You Hope, Ha Ha ?

You stay in some prretty upmarket places, Scunner.
What a thrill for the children as well.
Today's international rugby players get the best of everything so it isn't a no - tell motel.
What a great surprise (unless you knew in advance).
As for the games - I agree with Highlander.
England to get the Grand Slam but I do fear the Irish.
-
Ireland - despite a fine effort at the end from Wales - still in line for the Grand Slam.
Now - Scotland for the chop (he said hopefully, 'cos you never know).
-
I am distraught! What was going on? We only bothered to play for a few minutes in the game and yet were only 3 points behind with 30 seconds to go. Ireland had so many chances 5 yards out that they could afford to waste a few. Halfpenny missed a kick (good grief!): Sexton missed a hatful (good grief!). But still those green shirts came out on top!
-
Half time - Scotland up by 22 points to Eng;land's 6
Nothing can go wrong now, Highlander!
Scotland just seem to want it more......
-
We wasn't robbed.
The better team won on the day, no doubt.
England showed pasiion, intensity and total commitment for - well - seven or eight minutes at the end of the match.
Thoroughly deserved, Highlander.
-
See what can happen after an evening with me
-
An evening? Jeez, you should see what happens after just a couple of hours when alcohol is involved..

It was the daughter (not the Sun) wot dunnit!
-
Well done Scotland fully deserved
-
Great rugby played by Scotland, especially in the first half. Well deserved win.
-
P.S. And great tries from the distinctly Welsh-sounding Huw Jones!
-
And a great win by the Irish,
-
I am totally disgusted by and ashamed of this appalling behaviour. :( :( :(
Former Scotland and Lions captain Hastings, who won 67 international caps, should have a long hard look in the mirror for saying that opposing supporters of Jones' team wanted to "rub his face in the dirt".

-
I'd expect it from a Rangers/Celtic or even England/Scotland soccer match but it isn't rugby.
I've stood amongst Scottish fans at Murrayfield (friend in Bo'ness gets me a ticket) for English games and never witnessed that.
Thankfully it's very rare.
-
Ireland v Scotland.
Splendid game for the neutral. Scotland created and then wasted half a dozen chances with running play but Ireland proved far too powerful in the end.
-
To save time, I think we should give the opposition 7 points before the game starts so they don't have to bother running the 50 - 60 yards to touch down under the posts :( :( :(.
We'll win nothing if we continue to make so many schoolboy errors - e.g if you have a two man overlap - give it the first man and let him pass it to the second - don't just fling a stupid pass !
-
France v England
Well done France: what has happened to England? England were pretty dismal and helped out France with 16 penalties even though France tried to help England by being useless at lineouts and not much good at scrums. An odd game.
-
Indisciplined - disappointing.
Lucky to beat Wales, deserved to lose to Scotland and France.
Italy may well prove to be the game in which we deserved our win.
The only thing I've got right about this Six Nations was fearing Ireland.
Ah well, such is rugby.
-
So who do you fancy for Saturday: England or the scummy Irish? I wonder if my little sh1t place can come second?
-
Keeping up with the Joneses I see Colwyn. Shabby behaviour with or without the apology.

Nice to see you back talking Rugby Colwyn, you seemed to go missing last 6 nations last season.

From Tasmania with a very large head in relation to the body and described as "a ferocious, albeit dim-witted, omnivore with a notoriously short temper and little patience" (Wikipedia). Of course that is Taz the Looney Tunes cartoon Tasmanian Devil. Not Eddie Jones. Not at all.
-
Wonderful Gland Slam for Ireland: congratulations lads. Well-organized, skillful, calm, and efficient. They just looked like they knew exactly what they were doing in each phase of play. England were decidedly dull.
Great game to follow up the very entertaining opening match of the afternoon. Hard luck Parisse et al.
-
Totally agree Colwyn - congratulations to Ireland.
Scotland got out of jail big time. :-[ :-[ :-[
-
I concur, Colwyn.
Thoroughly deserverd Irish Grand Slam.
I wonder if Italy have done enough to justify their ongoing 6 Nations status.
Probably.
There will have to be some new English faces next season.
-
I wonder if Italy have done enough to justify their ongoing 6 Nations status.
Definitely - England need someone they can beat ;) ;) ;)
-
Little did I think 6 weeks ago that we would win the grand slam having got out of jail in Paris. After that game we really turned on the style and we deserved to be winners. We had to do it the hard way in having to win in Paris and Twickenham. No disrespect to Wales or Scotland but we have better results away to them than we have against the other two.
The future of Irish rugby looks good because we have a good crop of young players. It is difficult for us to continuously produce as rugby is at best our 4th sport. Although dying out rugby still carries a degree of snobbery. Most interest is in Gaelic games and soccer.
Many pints will be downed tonight. What could be better than winning the grand slam at Twickenham on St. Patrick's Day.
-
We didn't really deserve that one. But French indiscipline and an awful game from Trink-Duc let us get away with it.
-
What a difference a year makes.
March 2017 England scored a record 61 points against the Scots.
Ah well - here's to 2019.............
Enjoy St.Patrick's Day OPD.
Enjoying a Wadsworth 6X as we speak. A gentle "session" beer to start the evening!
-
Stuart, thank you, I will enjoy it.
I too am looking forward to 2019 rugby season. 6 nations and World Cup.
-
Well done Ireland realy deserved the grand slam.
Played realy well.

Article written by Jeremy Guscott today stating that Ireland does not have one world class player. What does that say about the rest of the six nations?
Last weekend there were rugby world cup qualifiers. Belgium were playing Spain. The Spaniards were hot favourites to win. The match officials that were appointed were Romanians. If Spain lost then Romania would have got the automatic spot. Yes, Belgium did win. The Spaniards were not happy and nearly strung up the officials. By all accounts in the press the officials did make a number of strange decisions. Rugby Europe has now got to report to World Rugby on what grounds the match officials were appointed.

I think I read, that they have to have a rematch.
