Inflation rate for Jan 2014 7.75%.

Food, non-alcoholic beverages and transportation costs being the main culprits.

Maybe I'm not focused on the details too closely but apart from a rise in the cost of my bakery bread last year and the tax increase on the cost of booze in January, I must say that I haven't noticed much of a change in price here?

What about the price of eggs and chicken..? Green beans were 10tl a kilo a month ago.. Potatoes and tomatoes way above what they would normally be at that time of year. I was shocked at how petrol and food prices has gone up in the 8 months since we left. Maybe if you are there day to day the prices aren't as obvious.. We were shocked at prices here when we came back after 6 years but everyone here is used to the prices..

Maybe it's a man thing Anne, I think anyone must be mad to think that tomatoes are expensive here, last Sunday 5kg of nice potatoes in the market cost us 3 lira (90p?) I know what you mean about green beans, we notice that anything that is out of season rockets in price when compared to the coppers (Kurus) it costs for a particular item during the season. In a strange sort of way, we like that, for instance, there were cherries on a stall in the market last Sunday, they cost a fortune compared to the prices when the Nif harvest that hits the stalls around August, for us, we are happy to wait and enjoy the in season, cheap, locally grown produce.

By the way, Blackpool Rock costs a fortune here, I'll swap you for some Turkish delight.
