Well after being involved in predictions for the lira - and converting some of ours back to sterling at the wrong time I wonder what the next 12 months will hold for the lira BUT in the meantime a heartening story that confounds the prophecies of many - including myself  :angel:

We have a friend who moved here 12 months since - got 4.50 to the pound and has had an average 12% interest for the past year which they have lived very well on and as of now at 3.84 to the pound - he has made a very healthy paper profit.

So for those (including me) who thought 5.0 to £1 was only a heartbeat away - WE KNOW NOTHING and well done to all those who came out here 12 months ago - what more could you have hoped for   :)

Any bets for 3.0 to £1   :)

Ps I am traumatized today as I walked past the cinema in town last night and was convinced by Gill that Bridget Jones would be good entertainment - plus side was it cost £2 so not a great loss other than 2 hours of my life   :)

Probably depends on how much more damage the Brexit fallout does to the pound. I'm off to Portugal on Sunday and £ has gone down yet another 1% against the € today.

 Brexit - RTE - Yellen flexing the FED - ISIS - Putin in the Ukraine - my friend is still happy   :)

Yes, we might expect "RTE - Yellen flexing the FED - ISIS - Putin in the Ukraine" to have impacted on currencies but the Lira has proved remarkably staple against $ and € over the last year. Only the £ has gone down the pan. Hope your mate shares the wealth at the bar!

OMG I am sooo sorry to hijack this topic but Ian do you mean you went to see Bridget Jones here in Turkey or uk please please say its Turkey, i never thought i may be able to see it out here! If so i know where i am off to today!   :)  :)  :)

It was Şekerbank and yes Bridget Jones was on in Fethiye with original soundtrack and Turkish subtitles (which you ignore / don't notice after a few minutes).

It was the "old" pictures in the town centre near the TTNET building and only 8 lira on a Thursday evening   :)
