Stop Press:  Well if the above was not enough to demonstrate this man's economic illiteracy, read this article where he has said that Turkey's weakening Lira was not a cause for concern.

I wonder some times whether people should be allowed to vote, if they are going to elect plums like this one ??? ??? : :) : :)

Actually, putting reality and cynicism to one side, what Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci said makes perfect sense- if you are Turkish and a traditional AKP supporter, that is!

With an impending election close on the horizon, there is absolutely no way that this guy, or anyone else in the AKP party for that matter, is going to come clean and talk down the economy.  He does what all politicians do especially with an election looming- try to put a positive spin on the situation to ensure his political survival.

Mr. Zeybekci is of course in denial (for the reasons above) with the fragile Turkish economy on the the precipice of a meltdown. Another reason is that anything that is said by him or other major politician can easily spook the markets and add to the already dire situation.

As long as they all keep taking the pills, they will be fine...
