There is a new restaurant opening next week on Calis front on the site of Nicholas Homes sales shop. They were getting it ready this week I spoke to the manager, it will be called Mousaka, I asked if it will be Authentic Turkish food is reply was "of course, but we will do English and International food, with vegetables or rice salad and chips" Just what calis needs!!!!

I was thinking when I started to read this it was going to be a Greek Restaurant as Mossaka is a Greek dish.  So if a new restaurant is opening on the Nicholas Homes site, where is the Calis Auction going to be held?

actually Mousaka is an arabic dish.....has its roots in middle eastern cookery.  So its as much (if not more !) Turkish than it is Greek !

Moussaka is originally from the middle east, with several countries including Turkey and Grece having their own slightly different version.  8)

If the new restaurant is authentic Turkish cuisine then that will be welcome in Calis, many people over the years have asked for a restaurant like that.

Don't tell them in Greece.  We were lectured on a cruise we took around the Greek Islands that Moussaka was Greek ;)
I always thought baclava was Turkish, but again we were told it was a Grecian dish.  I suppose every country wants to claim dishes as their own.

Nikkie the problem is they nearly all claim to do authentic turkish dishes (with rice salad and chips) I think this will be just another.

Jacqui the Greeks think they own Turkish Delight too - I believe they have even done whatever is the equivelent of patented it!

The people and the cultures are so mixed from the past its hardly surprising.

They are friends of mine Mark. They had a very good restaurant in Kalkan. I will be giving it a try and see how I get on.

Not sure but don't the Greeks do it with lamb and the Turkish version is beef?

I must say I do prefer it 'a la missus' though.
