Sloe Gin
« on: February 02, 2013, 09:11:23 AM »
In the last few months I have had a real taste for sloe gin and tonic.  I now prefer it to ordinary gin. I was just wondering, do they sell sloe gin in Turkey?  I would suppose not and I will bring a bottle over if they have it at the Airport, if not I will live without it for a few weeks, but it would be interesting to know.  :)

I've never seen it there Jacqui but your post brings back memories. My neighbour's  mum used to make it for people every year, late summer I think. She used to collect the sloe berries and we'd each buy a bottle of gin, she would put the berries in the bottle about half full, then top it up with the gin. You see her little perk here? We couldn't touch it till Xmas when it was gorgeous!

I've seen several sloe trees in the hills surrounding Fethiye so there's no reason why you couldn't pick the fruits and make your own brew.

Damson Gin is great too. Easily made in Turkey. Make some next time you come Jaqui and drink it on your next visit after that.

There's a clue !

I can't be specific, but they're out there if you've got the inclination to go trekking.
