The local eating places - no frills, food on show behind the glass, great wholesome food, good prices.

Whatabout the Locanta that is by the Eczane nearest to the Dolphin roundabout (name escapes me) do they not count as a locanta in Calis??  Then again I have eaten there, so forget that as any sort of recommendation!!

Carol Bostan had her art work for sale at the Çalis May Fair yesterday outside this place. The staff couldnt have been nicer keeping us topped up with water, tea and coffee throughout the day.Quite a few people were also eating there and all had good reviews about the food. The toilets are so clean and newly refurbished. They also sell alchohol which many of the lokantas do not.Dont know about the price of a beer for you gentlemen who follow this trend but a rose (good make) wine and soda was only 7.5tl!

No. A lokantasi would typically have no menu and you would choose from a series of "dishes of the day" laid out in a heated glass unit.

Went to this new place today for lunch.  Very welcoming and service good, I had what I describe as the 'Hedgehog' Mousaka, no it was not made of hedgehog the potatoes were placed vertically, rather than the hotpot like horizontal, hence the dish behind the glass looks like a hedgehog.  Anyway the food was very good, came with the usual inclusive salad, bread and post meal cay.

A recommend.

So the neon lit sign saying Lokantasi should be ignored then?

I guess they can call it what they like. Just saying that a lokantesi traditionally would be an eating place for workers and shopkeepers and workers, where they would get cheap home cooked food.
