Surely Indian people make authentic Indian meals Mark? Or are you saying you have to live/be in India to obtain one :o

And Bangladeshi folk too innit.

I live in a town with a large Bangladeshi community ,some of oldest and a street famous for training chefs who then go on to open their own places in London,Birmingham etc You ask any Bangladeshi in UK and Iam sure they would know of Ocean Road in South Shields. My point is that a lot of our community have never seen India but make some of the best Indian food around. As it happens I too like the Cais Beach Inian and find quite authentic as in Indian home cooking, but yes a bit pricey.I hope the new one is just as good and that they both prosper

As we are usually over for three weeks and eat out most nights and Phil really likes Indian food, we tried it for a change for dinner with our neighbours.   It was very good.  We went back one night in October when it was teaming with rain and they had covers all around the place and a gas heater.  However, Indian in Scotland or Indian in Calis, we are still not in Indian or having a proper Indian meal.
I don't eat steak in Turkey as I know it cannot beat Steak in Scotland, which we have quite a lot.  I never find Steak is very exciting to order for a meal out.  I think years ago it was thought to be the thing to order if you ate out.  I remember going out with guys to Berni Inns and the done thing was to order Steak.   Time change though.

My husband is from Kashmir and is quite the chef  - buys his spices freshly ground (only 50g at a time to keep them fresh) from the very patient spice man in the veg market next to the fish market - but the curry powder comes with him in his suitcase. And yes there was that time the powder bag exploded on the flight ....

But let's just say we don't bother going out for a curry in Turkey.

Steve I was lucky enough to sample the Indian cuisine delights of South Shields when working up there many years ago - talk about competition, you had to be brilliant to be even in business still I think.

Jacqui there is simply no way a curry on Calis prom compares with a quality one in the UK!!!

I am interested to know - what constitutes a "good" Indian.

Or is it like steak, a personal choice whether it be rare, medium or well done.

A good Indian is an Indian that tastes good, what part of this are you struggling with man :D

Authentic, subtle, complex, tender - I could go on. Not hot for the sake of it or a local interpretation based on ingredients available (or not).

Sort of  :)
