Title: Missing my fizz
Post by: Gilly1 on July 24, 2015, 15:21:56 PM
Hi, has anyone come across any sparkling wine that tastes similar to prosecco for sale in the supermarket or even from the wine merchants? I do enjoy a glass of fizz on holiday.

I was wondering this today too :o

The only ones I have tried have been like sickly sweet fizzy style or paint stripper :D

I tried one a couple of times which was acceptable and dryish, I cannot for the life of me remember the name, but it was a clear bottle with a pastel shade large butterfly on it. We always treat ourselves couple bottles fizz on offer at airport.

Thank you Lotty and keith, I will just have to sample a few bottles when I am over in a few weeks and will let you know the outcome.

A cheaper alternative is to have a white wine spritzer!

Watched a piece on the morning programme about loosing weight and watching what you eat at BBQ's .  The Dietician was saying that any white or rose sparkling white contains much more sugar than dry wine and it is best select a dry wine as each glass has 70 calories less.

I am quite pleased actually, as I always prefer a dry red wine.  I saw a Diectician myself a few years ago and she told me a glass of red wine is good for you (not in excess though) it is good for your heart.  White wine and rose, the sweet stuff has a high sugar content.   In fact she told me any dark  fruit such as berries are good as is brown bread and brown rice all good G.I.  Followed her advice every since.

Possibly my lovely late Mum in Law always enjoyed a glass and she told us it was good for her and I had no reason to doubt her.    :)   After all she was Irish and the Irish are experts on Guinness.    ;)
