Title: Help neede please
Post by: DonM on June 06, 2017, 11:01:58 AM
Next year it will be our 60th wedding anniversary and we are looking for help in finding a suitable place to go. It's in December (5th) so most of Europe is ruled out due to the weather.

Cruising is out as the boss has been known to be sea sick on the Woolwich free ferry.   :)  :)

We are into trains, we have done a few of the iconic train trips in the world. For our 50th we did a three week escorted tour  in India by train. It covered most of the famous places so we don't really want to go back again. We are seriously looking at train trips in South Africa any advice would be most welcome.

Our interests are varied we do a lot of sight seeing on foot usually using local guides if we are not on an escorted tour.

So if anybody has any ideas baring in mind we are in our eighties they would be most welcome,

Don

The first one that comes to mind is The Blue Train, always wanted to go on it but haven't even managed to get to SA yet!

If you've got deep pockets there are some nice looking trips here: https://www.greatrail.com/holiday-destinations/africa/south-africa/

For me it would have to be Canada.....Don't know why, but I've always wanted to. Also it appears that the weather is'nt that bad at the beginning of December.  :)

It will be summer in New Zealand. Visiting the South Island you can see whales, lots of species of dolphins and albatrosses, penguins, mountains, glaciers, rain forests ... and the wine is outstanding. You can stop off in Hong Kong or Singapore on the way.

Thanks for all the input. Have a lot to think about. For anybody interested in train journeys this site https://www.seat61.com/ has a great deal of very useful info.

We're off to Sri Lanka and are planning to do the Kandy to Ella train ride through the tea plantations.
Its said to be one of the most stunning journeys there is.
So excited.
Have a wonderful trip Don and let us know what you decide to do.

We cruised down the coast of Croatia and it was stunning beautiful.   One of the Officer was telling us how unspoilt it was.  The little seaside village looks so lovely.
