I remember when you had just the little corner shops and Star Supermarket on the aquapark road (which didn't sell alcohol). You had to go to Fethiye to do your holiday shop.

Now there are more supermarkets in Calis than hotels 8)

According to the Sabah (yeah, not the most reliable source) since 2010 almost 80,000 small markets went out of business, a reduction of 32%.

Supermarket chains increased their presence by 178%.

However, maybe it's turning full circle - Sok are having an IPO to raise 2.6Bn lira, with analysts suggesting this is to clear their debt.  It's interesting that the parent company of Sok is Yildirim Holdings (who also own McVities) and there were murmers earlier in the year that they may be running into difficulties servicing their (foreign) debt.

Article on Reuters  (https://www.reuters.com/article/turkey-ipo/update-1-turkish-discount-grocer-sok-sees-ipo-of-around-2-6-bln-lira-bookrunner-idUSL8N1RM1EN)if anyone's interested.

We always try to use the two little markets up near Violet, one opposite and the other further up on the same side of BM.  Unfortunately this year, both carried very little stock apart from milk, bread, beers and juice :(
It seemed quite obvious, to me anyway, that the numerous supermarkets appearing overnight has hit them hard and they haven't bothered to replenish their stocks to the levels of previous years.
