The stereotypical 1980's T.V. image of the scouser in shell suit with curly wig and moustache is very old hat now.
Us Scouser are a sophisticated people who do not fall into the cateorgory the southern press like to put us in.
I have never had curly hair owned a shell suit or had a moustache!!

:P:D

Jacqui

You skilfully managed to write all that without mentioning Ricky Tomlinson (lived nearly all his life in Liverpool) - the main "sophisticated character" in the show!!! It may be set in Manchester but like you, he's still from Liverpool :D

Sorry Jim! (dycedon not Jim Royle)

I think you are getting real life mixed up with fiction.
Yes, Ricky spent a lot of his life in Liverpool (Born in Blackpool) however, he is an actor
playing a part in a Manchester sit-com, written for him by two Mancunians, he plays the part as it's written, like all actors will.
Do you think that the London born actor Warren Mitchell is really just like the bigot and racist Alf Garnett that he played so well, if so it did not throw a good light on Londoners.

I didn't realise it was acting Jacqui, I thought they put a hidden camera in their house!

It doesn't have any relevance whatsoever that it was written by Mancunians!!! They wrote a script of made up things, they can be from anywhere!!!

As an actor, is Ricky Tomlinson playing a stereotypical Mancunian or a stereotypical Scouser?

Oh trust me to be away when they announced this. I booked 3 lots of flights from Glasgow cos I thought there wouldn't be any from Aberdeen. I now have to claim back the globespan flights from my credit card company hopefully.
