PAYG Turkey Mobile Internet browsing
« on: May 19, 2010, 14:49:47 PM »
I am coming over in June and have to use the internet on my phone,  I am with UK Vodafone and their roaming data charges are shocking, Turkey is not even included in the Vodaphone passport deal they have.

Can I walk into a Turkcell or another suppliers shop and buy a pay as you go simcard for data browsing?  Also how much would this be?

Thanks
Paul

I have had the Turkish Vodaphone Dongle for more than a year now and its cost 35 lira per 3 month period.
so possibly a SIM card would be near the same costs.
You will be able to buy, but take your passport with you (or someone who has residency)

the cost of just a sim card was 15tl so may have gone up a little bit, as for the rest surely that is the phone that you put a sim in.  you can use an english phone for a limited time before it is blocked normally about 2 to 4 weeks, also most cafes and hotels have free internet access, just cost you drink.
You can get a sim from the appropriate phone shop, dont think there is one in calis but there are lots in Fethiye, many of which have good english.
I am not very good at this sort of thing but hope this helps a bit. have a lovely holiday xx

Dongle same as UK, I forget the price but around 65 lira + 15 lira for SIM card + 35 Lira for 3 month use.
Then 35 lira every 3 months as long as you stay below the 1GB download, and as I only use for emails etc its ample (but a bit slow, but that may be my little notebooks fault)
