Don`t want dampen  all our expectations, but I was just wondering by widening the canal to accommodate the flood waters from the mountains albeit a good thing, as we all know flood waters flow very strongly in full flow. That is fine where the present improvements have been made and we are relieved that works do not appear to go beyond the footbridge by Club E, but  I would suspect that the resulting surge of water would wash away the natural embankments by the bird sanctuary which does occur from the water taxis who go faster than they should at times. Not being an engineer , but observant, I would be interested by views of someone  more enlightened.    :-\

Widening and creating a deeper v in the channel as they have done should in theory slow the waters down substantially
