Disposable Contact Lenses
« on: August 23, 2014, 06:58:39 AM »
I had an eye-test earlier this year before we left the UK permanently and have a copy of my prescription.

I currently use a mix of monthly and daily contact lenses. Can I just go into an optician's over here and buy more without having a new test?

I ask because in the UK I once had problems doing so when I was between opticians; the new one insisted I have another eye-test even though I had a prescription that was only a few months old.

Just take your prescription to the optician and they will provide your lens's accordingly.

Not quite the same but still with eyes! Will opticians over there put new prescription lenses in existing frames does anyone know?  In UK you have to buy new frames each time and I happen to like the ones I have (which were quite expensive!). I really dont need yet another pair of frames!

Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Yes, opticians WILL put new lenses in old frames for you.

Also worth mentioning that, if you're thinking of having Transition lenses they're less than half the price in Turkey.

Pauline, by Transition lens do you mean multi-focals ?   :)

Hi Lotty, transitions are when the lenses go from light to dark in sunlight. They are not for everyone,  it depends on your prescription,  in my case I have one eye considerably weaker than the other resulting in a higher number for that lens. For that reason I can't have transitions as the lenses would not darken equally.

Thanks Marggie, I'm just trying out contacts at the moment, but think I will have to stay with glasses, I feel like I'm looking through water all the time! They are multi-focal though so it's a bit complicated to be perfect.  :)

Never tried contacts Lotty. I know at one time they weren't suitable for older people but that has all changed now.  Wearing glasses doesn't bother me, they can hide a multitude of sins!
