Title: Icmeler - Worth a Few Days Visit?
Post by: McGroogle on February 13, 2008, 12:28:18 PM
Me and the family are coming over to Calis in July.

We always break our stay up by visiting lot's of places and staying over if necessary. It's all part of the fun.

Have looked at Icmeler a for few years now and fancy 2/ 3 nights there. I know it's commercialised much more than Calis/ Fethiye but not as bad as Marmaris from what I have read. Marmaris does not interest me one bit.

So if people have been to Icmeler - we would welcome any comments?

We visited on a couple of occasions in the middle of our Calis hols, the first time for 1 night and we stayed in Marmaris. The next year we went to Icmeler for 2 nights and the year after we did a twin centre and had our first week in Icmeler before moving on to Calis. We really liked the place. It much bigger and yes it is more commericalised- Marmaris is like a mad house! However Icmeler is very pretty, the beach is nice although the sunbeds are packed on it, there is plenty of nightlife too.
Give it a go- its not an arduous journey and you see some lovely scenary on the way. Its even better if Mr Laffa's driving! We had brill times on each occasion and loads of 'laffs'! Unfortunately on our last night there my jewellry was stolen from the hotel- but that couldve happened anywhere!:-\

we go to Icmeler for a week   every October travelling from Fethiye. We love it (not as much as Fethiye) but the nightlife and restaurants are better there. There is Turunc next door which is well worth a visit on the water taxi. Icmeler market is brilliant. Icmeler itself is very pretty.

Same comments as my missus Cavfan re Icmeler. With regards to Turunc, i remember when we were staying in Icmeler, we had a great day out there with Mr and Mrs Laffa. I 'll never forget sitting waist high in the sea on white plastic chairs whilst Cavfan and Laffa 'gegged in ' to everyones conversations around us!  :)

There are some posh 5* hotels there, if you like that kind of thing therefore offers a bit of a contrast to Calis. Pretty resort with quite a bit of character.

It was visits to Icmeler in two consecutive years that sold Turkey to us. Halfway through the second holiday we travelled to Fethiye and bought our apartment.
We really enjoyed Icmeler but avoided Marmaris.

Icmeler is a great place to go but Turunc is better, its a bit quieter there. Marmaris is ideal for shopping far cheaper than Calis/Fethiye.

:)Your spot on there about the prices being alot cheaper in Marmaris, Its okay for a weekend but I could'nt handle a week there, And Shaun was correct about us sitting in the water in Turunc having a lady telling us all about the area and how far Calis was etc, we did'nt have the heart to tell her how long we'd been going there as she was an expert who was on her 3rd visit. :o

Thanks.

Hi

We stayed in Alvaro apartments a family run business 3 times and because of their popularity it got harder to book. On our last stay at an hotel we were told the best apartments were called Captain Silver you can google them.

We have always enjoyed our times in Icmeler not very fond of Marmaris, although always think its worth looking at what suits one does not necessary suit another.

Have a good time  8) :)

:)Cant remember tha name of the one we stayed in, but would not recommend it because of what happened to Cavfans jewellry, but there are plenty near to the beach which are very reasonable, i think Cavfan will remember the names of them, always check for any extras like air con, safety boxes etc they can really mount up. ;)

Stayed at Icmeler 3 times, was all set to buy there, but checked out Calis after going to a show and have bought a place in Calis.  Like both areas a lot, night life better at Icmeler,  Michael Jackson, belly dancers, break dancers etc etc at a lot of bars, (can get a bit much after a week, but good fun for a week)
Beach very nice, but very limited sun beds, as a lot of the beach is owed by Hotels and the public not allowed to there beach area.
Would recommend Icmeller for a one week holiday.  Calis has more to offer overall.
