Title: Dumplins without suet
Post by: philrose on February 23, 2008, 12:50:34 PM
For those who like dumplins in their stew but don't have suet this recipe makes great dumplins....

Non suet dumplings

7oz plain flour
1oz corn flour
2 level tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1/4/pint milk
2 tbl corn oil

Sift together ingredients. Mix oil and milk and stir in. Add enough milk to form a soft dough then form into small balls. Arange in a single layer in your stew and simmer for 30 minutes.

NB the corn flour is called Misir Unu here, and it's not the lighter corn starch which we in the the uk call corn flour

The white corn starch that is sold in the UK as corn flour is also available in Carrefour and Migros. Look on the top shelves above the normal flours.

Self-raising flour is also available. Look for Kekunu. Make sure you get the one marked Sade, which means plain because they also do nut and chocolate flavoured SR Flour.

Very true but make sure it's corn flour and not corn starch in the recipe:D
