Title: Foreign Cars
Post by: angieebabe on May 31, 2011, 22:17:37 PM
Hi .
Can someone tell me exactly what the rules are presently for bringing a car over from the UK. Basically how long can I keep it here and what is the best and easiest route to take to get it over if driving over. Some conflicting Reports and possibly just gossip say it has been extended to 2 years, I can see no evidence to back this up.

Nothing changed and there's lots of info on here if you use the search button....6 months in 6 months out so in 2 years you can bring it in twice.

You can keep your British car in for 2 years (renewable). You have to
1) have residency
2)prove you are retired
3)deposit a rather large sum in the bank (this is untouchable whilst the car is in Turkey)
When renewing after 2 years the Turkish Government charge just under 1000TL tax.
I know this is true as we imported our car 4 1/2 years ago.

Thanks for that Folks it kind of clears it up now . Looks like the Retirement bit is the bit I don't qualify for yet. Many Thanks.
