Title: want to try somewhere new!
Post by: sue mac on March 16, 2015, 12:23:15 PM
Hi all,
Out for our first holiday of the year in 3 weeks time....and we are thinking we would like to try some new restaurants down in Fethiye this year.
We normally only really go to Mosaic Bahce, Megri lokantasi or Nefis when we are in Fethiye, but would like to try somewhere different. We have a car for two weeks and we are situated up in Ovacik. We are family of four with 10 and 14 year old girls...
Have heard lots of things about Manceros, Address, café café and kings garden.....any tips greatly appreciated.Or any tips for anywhere else that may be open at the moment... thank you in advance..

Hi Sue, looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks time. If you want to try somewhere new then maybe the new restaurant Mandalin.

It's very close to the law court on the road to Çaliş almost opposite Alo 24, take the right at the roundabout by the second Kipa (law courts opposite) and it is there on the left.

We went the other night and really enjoyed it and in April it might be warm enough to sit outside by the pool to eat. My review is currently the last one on page 2 of this topic. There are a few Turkish meals on the menu.

Mancero is fabulous - service, presentation, food, everything - I'd definitely recommend it to someone looking for somewhere they haven't tried before. Great experience at King's Garden too. Very friendly and awesome views - and to be at the foot of the rock tombs, all makes for a really memorable night.

Yes we can recommend Yengec too. We had a lovely evening there last year. It's a little bit different and has daily specials etc which the waitress reels off. You would need to book though.  :)

Just came back today was taken by our turkish friends to a restaurant called kebap Time it's on the road where the big Migros is in Fethiye not sure of the name of the road maybe someone could tell you this.
But the food was excellent a proper turkish Resturant and reasonably cheap and very busy !!

I agree, Yengec Ovacik is superb. Definitely need to book at least a few days before.
I'm planning to try the kebab place that was on the Esnaf side of the seafront road, but is now in what was Nayla, near Mancero.
Apparently it's fantastic, 28tl for meze plate and huge Adana/ Beyti kebab and managed by Teo from Bus a Stop days.

I would like to try Yengec here in Ovacik, it is regularly recommended.

I think kayakebab, you mean these guys (if you have facebook) https://www.facebook.com/adanalihasankolcuoglufethiye?fref=ts

As you say they have now moved to on the Kordon directly opposite to their old place. We call them HK or 'The Epic Kebab Place'. Been several times, always great - amazing mezes both before and after the Epic Kebab - and impeccable service. Great value too.

Kepab Time and MAndalin are now on the list :)  Yengec is one of our most favourite, we go there at least four or five times in the summer...hopefully it will be open now for a spring visit :))

Kings Garden is good and they will pick you up and drop you back for free.
Also the Istanbul in Kayakoy.  They will also pick you up and drop you back. They have a BBQ night on Saturday with a great sing and saxophone player and they also have dancing.  There is a set three course menu for 40 lira each.

Even if you ignore the quality of the food (which is good) the location of King's Garden (which we went to for the first time last summer) makes the visit worthwhile alone. It also gives you the opportunity to have a look at the Rock Tombs between courses. Sadly, they have been defaced by graffiti, but are still spectacular.

You get a panoramic view from the restaurant across pretty much of all of Fethiye from well above the town, also looking out to Sovalye Adasi/Island, Calis and the bay. It's stunning.

(edit: sorry , Scunner already said all that, but I will still re-iterate the point)

Last year took a lovely walk out ,got water taxi from Calis, walked up to the tombs, popped into Kings Garden for a beer.then walked up to the castle, past the Kale Park taking the road that runs above Pas Patur.then there is a little path which connects to sokak 2&3 which are quaint little streets above the amphitheatre, walked down the side of the amphitheatre coming out near the Fethiye Bey statue, through Pas Patur, stopped for a beer at Blue Cafe then jumped on Dolmus back to Gulukbasi and walked home via Seckin, stopped for a beer and a chat with a friend in tobacco shop.Mrs AA hadn't moved from her horizontal position around the pool and her first question was "do you think it's time for a beer?"Ha Ha go on then !
Got some great photos but don't know how to upload from ipad

If you want to go a little further take the dolmus to Kabak and spend a day or night at the Olive Garden which is uber relaxation in beautiful surroundings, simple food done well and reasonably priced.

... and take your swimming kit with you. As Steve says - food and atmosphere most worthwhile.

Absolutely, Kabak, the most beautiful place locally. We went on a day visit last May via dolmus from Fethiye and Again when we stayed the night in September. Absolutely fantastic. The Olive Garden does a "special deal" where you get evening meal, chalet for the night and breakfast for an extremely reasonable price. Just one word of warning, the walk from the road is extremely steep and uneven, so wear a sturdy pair of shoes/sandals.   :)

Have you tried the Iskele restaurant on the marina in front of the amphitheatre?

Its still our favourite despite the road running right in front of it now :( the chicken shish is simply fab and staff are great. They a have a lovely fire lit on chilly evenings.

We stayed at the Olive Garden in July for one night. A stunning place.  Only thing is I would probably forgoe the set meal in the evening and choose from the menu next time, as although it was lovely, it wasn't everybodies cup of tea and we were a group of 14. Other than that, a beautiful setting, so peaceful and natural...cant wait to return.  iskele restaurant very good...went there a couple of years ago and was most impressed! Must go back actually :))
