What happened to the police attempts to control the `sound` level in Hisaronu ? in particular the centre.... at 10pm onwards the music ( if you can call it that ) was horrendous and MEGA loud and much worse even than previous seasons.... it was heaving with people so obviously the majority of visitors love all that boom boom and they all must be familiar with `lip reading skills` !!!
Ah well... we always thought a few years ago that Hisaronu was catching up with the likes of Marmaris, Gumbet, and the likes...
Refreshingly last night we managed to find a quiet bar who were actually playing nice turkish music .... but those kind of places are fast disappearing as the Brits seem to want only karaoke and the `boom boom` sad :-(
-
I keep on writing complaints , but nobody does anything it seems. The loud noise is everywhere , not only in Hisarönü but also in Ovacık where we live.
I would suggest anybody who feels disturbed should go to the municipality building opposite the market place , go to the 'Zabita' office and make a complaint.
The more complaints , the higher the chance they will react. The limit of noise and the time is defined by law.
-
There was a complaint on Trip Advisor from a tourist who could not sleep in his Hotel because the music next door went on until 3am every morning and it was ruining his holiday.
I understand from places such as the Istanbul in Kaya and the Kings Garden in Fethiye, that, by law, music must be stopped at midnight. Is Hisaronu exempt from this law. ???
-
Most laws in Turkey appear to be ignored
-
The law is the same , but I understand that Fethiye municipality is somehow still not present in this area after more than one year has passed since last years communal elections. This is also to be seen as the roads and streets have become dirtier than before.
This is the facebook page of the responsible office of Fethiye Municipality for noise and other environmental problems.
The office is called "Fethiye Çevre Koruma Müdürlüğü" ( Fethiye Environmental Protection Management ).
I suggest everybody to message them...

-
This is the lady responsible for Fethiye environment , the Gentleman on the left is the Mayor himself and next to him sits the depute mayor Mr. Mete Atay ( pink T-shirt ) responsible for Ölüdeniz area.
-
I don't think it's the Brits that want the noise. It's the younger Turks that THINK the Brits are attracted by it.
-
I think younger Brits are attracted by it,and like the night life,
-
Yes, it is the place to go to party. I cannot see them ever keeping quiet.
-
They have the Jandarma driving round enforcing the noise levels after midnight. Most bars turn it down whilst the Jandarma pass then turn it back up again when they have passed.
-
Maybe THIS should be the final solution :

-
Well I'd love to see this! Everyone's interpretation of music is different, so dancing they'd look like they were all crazy! ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Forgive me if I am wrong, and I am sure someone will correct me, but I think the problem is that Fethiye itself is now controlled and funded from Mugla, which is an AK party stronghold. I have noticed that Fethiye itself is also not so clean nowadays, maybe because of funding? We have so many buses here now, dolmus plus also the 'big' buses that now seem to run to lots of areas. There are so many buses now parked in Fethiye near to Ozsut that it is sometimes very difficult for traffic to pass. I am not suggesting that more public transport is a bad thing, but this does seem to be overkill. Saatci, the mayor of Fethiye is not AK party, so possibly this is being used politically. Seydikemer is an AK party town and seems to be faring better...... Personally I would rather not live in an AK party controlled town even if it does mean better cleaning etc.... Is the Zabita responsible for noise levels in the bars in Hisaronu, or the Jandarma in Oludeniz.
-
Is the Zabita responsible for noise levels in the bars in Hisaronu, or the Jandarma in Oludeniz.
Both. The Zabita are the Turkish equivalent of the UK's Environmental Health Officers. They generally issue warnings and enforcement notices in respect of noise, licencing of premises, weights and measures, hygiene etc. If they're ignored they refer the matter to the Jandarma. However, the Jandarma can just go straight in and shut a venue down without the involvement of the Zabita if they think it warrants it.
I don't know what it's like now, but a few years ago, the Zabita didn't venture into Oludeniz very often. It was mostly left to the Jandarma Garrison in Oludeniz to take care of matters on their own doorstep.
-
First of all Muğla is governed by CHP the social democrat main opposition , not AK Parti. The majority of Fethiye Municipality seats are also CHP members. Unfortunately the Fethiye mayor Saatci himself said , he would campaign for AK Parti if they would make Fethiye itself a province.
Since Muğla province has gained Big City ( Büyük Şehir ) status since the communal elections in 2014 , Fethiye municipality is no more independent like before. This applies to decisions and also income of the town. As mentioned the buses e.g. and the tap water and controlling of main roads is done by Muğla. This situation is new for Fethiye , but Istanbul , Ankara , Izmir and other big provinces are ruled the same way.
Fethiye Municipality is responsible for environment matters like noise control till midnight , then Jandarma ( or Police in Fethiye town ) is responsible. After midnight no music is allowed in open areas and bars , discos etc have to close their doors and make music in isolated areas not to be heard from outside.

Well we had a day trip to Hisaronu yesterday and won't be going back it was non stop hassle from shops beauty salons etc also felt very intimidated in one shop when we were trying to find a hoodie, we realised Calis is tame in comparison and have now named it Harasonu, not trying to upset ny Husaronu lovers but was defo not for us :(
-
If I were the municipality , I would make available at restaurants , bars and shops some questionnaire forms to find out what tourists and visitors like and dislike in Hisarönü and elsewhere if possible.
Then I would try to make things better based on the results the next season.
-
I always quite liked Hisaronu for a walk around the shops and a drink.
However, now I think I like it more. It is not so mad during the day We enjoyed our meal at the Shine probably because it was only 6.30pm and we did leave before all the party people came out. We have found a couple of shops that are not the same as all the others. One in particularly where we have bought items for our Villa
I think this time we actually stood back and thought what a lovely setting the town is in. I took some pictures in the town centre something I had never done before, I think because we now have more time we are appreciating that you can forget the commercialised town and look at the bigger picture. We can just take the bits we like from Hisaronu and forget the rest.

Jacqui - Personally I won't classify that as Hisaronu town centre.
-
My better half remembers Hisaronu when it was nothing more than a road junction with a small pension, a couple of mangy dugs and selection of livestock. Might even have some pictures somewhere, will try to look them out.

That sounds to me as though it's gone downhill since those days. :)

Hence the reason that we always refer to it as Hiroshima. ;)

Remember that too, and absolutel nothing in Olu apart from crofts as building wasn't allowed there.

Thankfully I have never felt the need to get off the dolmus to Olu Deniz at Hisaronu. That feeling is not going to change in the near future.
-
Strange how we all love Calis and don't have a high opinion of Hisaronu. We would find it hard to swallow this review of Calis on T.A. last month. To me is sounds much more like Hisaronu.

It's not strange at all Jacqui.
For me it's quite simple - I love Calis and hate Hisaronu.

Not all of us Jacqui. As far as I'm concerned Calis and Hisaronu are pretty much in the same league.
-
You've got to be joking KKOB! You cant possibly put the 2 in the same league . You need to go back for a holiday and check them both out again. No comparisson IMHO.
-
Thank God we're all different
I bought in Hisaronu because I love the place, the surrounding areas, and the places it's near to.
It's got a quarter mile strip that gets noisy from dusk 'til late, and a few places where people feel
the need to dance on Bars, and that's all some people seem to notice. In 10 years I have never
been hassled in the shops. You get hassled at the Monday Market but probably less than the
Tuesday Market. I've never been in a Kareoke Bar, I avoid noisy places anywhere, and I enjoy my
time in Hisaronu. I can walk a short distance up through the forest and look down on Oludeniz and
the lagoon. I can watch lovely sunsets over Kaya from my balcony, i'm getting homesick talking about it.
In my opinion the best thing about Calis is this Forum, the rest is very indifferent. But I don't go on about it.!!
People that don't like Hisaronu don't HAVE to go there, we'll try and manage without you. ;)

That's my opinion after living in Kaya for 6 years Toky.
And yes, you're right, I do need a holiday. But when I get to go, I'll just be passing through Calis and Hisaronu. ;)

Kevin makes a point that Hisaronu is not all about the main street and he enjoys the place he owns there.
We also think Calis is not all about the town centre. We live on the outskirts and enjoy the quiet little corner of Calis we have. However, Calis is also about the people and the lovely community spirit we all seems to feel, the affinity us members have and the wonderful way we all get together to help the local Charities. To me Calis is a warm and happy feeling when we go there to see people we know and to meet other members of CBF. We have a unique community thanks to CBF that make Calis a lot more than just a holiday destination.
Incidentally, this view is from our balcony in Calis, not what a lot of people would expect.

Like your style ! Kevin3 !
Always a laugh reading Hisaronu threds ! People pontificating about a place that is also peoples home! People that if they don't like Hisaronu don't need to visit ! It's easy to find criticism about all the resorts be it Olu, Kaya, Fethiye, Uzumlu Calis ☺
Hisaronu has always been the same, will always be the same until the British and no longer there! Let it be as it is love it or hate it! Visit or stay away!
Long live the King ! Long live Marmite Town.
-
Gawwwwwdddd here we go...go...I'm not pontificating about anyone's home merely pointing out Hisaronu was not for us, we were looking forward to a change of scene and a day out but sadly could not look at anything touch anything or even utter a word such as trainers before the shop keepers were upon us, we felt intimidated in two shops to he point I thought my husband was going to get punched for saying he wanted to pay no more then 40 tl for. Cheap hoodie but he would have to like it, not just buy sumst a teenager would wear, that was it for us I said iv had it lets go, had be been left alone we would have bought far more then we did... It made us realise in Calis we are pretty much not hassled thst much...
Thank goodness we are all different in this life...

For as long as I can remember Hisaronu has been the areas punchbag. Someone makes a post about Hisaronu
and the hate mob kick off. Most of it goes over my head as i'm happy with my lot but occasionally I will defend
it and wonder why these people need to keep going back there to make sure it is still a bad place to visit.
If they are happy with Calis stay there and enjoy it.I wasn't bothered by your post but the reaction to it was predictable
Enjoy your holiday. :)

We used to be one of the Hisaronu knockers but now don't feel this way anymore. We enjoy our trip to Hisaronu and particularly to the lovely shop run by a sister and brother, shop is called
Anadolu el sanatlar they never try to drag you in as they are always too busy serving. We have bought lots of things for our home there and last visit met a family who live in Calis in the shop who told us their home is full of items from this shop. We also found a little shop that had lovely shirts very thin cool material, Phil loved them. The shop is run by a Turkish family, again, no hassle and they have a sewing machine in the shop where they make items themselves our neighbour in Calis was so impressed with Phil's shirt, he wanted one and said he would break the habit of a lifetime and go to Hisaronu. We also found a really nice shop full of Turkish furniture, rugs, jewellery etc., just under the Shine Restaurant. They have a branch in Paspatur, again no hassle. I also love Goldfinger and it is now my Beauty Salon of choice in the area, two branches one in Ovacik and one in Hisaronu. In fact, when at the Ovacik branch, Phil wanted a shave, so Kathy, the owner drove him down to the Hisaronu Salon whilst I was getting my nails done. Great service, lovely staff and good hygienic treatments. We also love the Garden Centre in Ovacik lots of lovely plants there and if you need something the owner will get it for you.
I am getting fond of Hisaronu (and Ovacik), will be back in September. However, will draw the line at any night visits :)
-
Yes I really like the little shop you have fallen in love with, much like those more expensive shops in the centre of Paspatur, the owners sister is my daughters's Turkish dentist - Sehan. The Turkish furniture rugs etc shop is fabulous but wildly expensive by anyone's standards. A jug for flowers was a ridiculous price. Lovely stuff though. These shops were hassle free. HOWEVER most of the bag, nails and clothes shops can't leave you alone and are beyond irritating. The actual Hisaronu village with local type shops is lovely with friendly people and reasonable prices. I can't say I like the night life but that just one area.
High up in the mountain behind Hisaronu is a fabulous hotel/restaurant, very different and more European. M booked us a night up there and it is amazing. The food is all fresh daily and cooked by one of the 3 owners. Everything is immaculate and it's a well hidden treasure. It's called Palazzo il Refugio. Check it out on Google.
-
Lottie, Just looked it up on T.A. it is beautiful. Think we will have a meal there and stay over the night in Setpember. Thanks for the heads up.
Did you drive up there? is it easy to find?
-
Not really easy to find the first time Jacqui, we did a reccy beforehand on one of our drives. The last 200 metres is still unmade road. Taxi drivers know it, say it's near the blue Orka apartments. I think the hotel will collect from Hisaronu anyway. We love it. Views to die for. ;D

Thanks Connie, will have a look when we are over in September. :)

Looks like the only guest is a very large Rottweiler.☺ but he will not will not answer the phone!
Palazzo il ??
But all is well ! Only Restaurant open certain days! No guests just now but more due next week!
Thanks Connie, will have a look when we are over in September. :)
-
There were lots of people there when we stayed including a fun Yoga group who visit for a one week stay a few times each season. It also seems to be a regular haunt for some, but being off the beaten track it's not a place you can just turn up and expect a table because Frank (chef) buys food and cooks according to bookings. People need to book in advance, especially for Friday's and Saturdays which fill up quickly. They've always answered our calls, but the alternative is email : palazzo.il.rifugio@gmail.com
Their website is http://www.palazzo-il-rifugio.com
:)
-
I am making notes Lotty. :)
-
I emailed them as I thought this might be nice for Johns birthday, but at £45 per head per night and £16-34 each for evening meals he can make do with a curry at Shine and a couple of beers.
Does look beautiful and tranquil though.
-
Beautiful and tranquil ?? The Orka Estate changed all that !
-
When we stayed we never heard a thing, or saw anyone in the Orka complex, it really was quiet and tranquil Lynda. We loved it, at about 5pm a local woman and man bring the goats and sheep down the mountain, the goats bells were the only sounds we heard.
PS the Orka complex is quite a way up the hill behind the Hotel.
