Title: Internet providers
Post by: Steve Runyard on April 26, 2016, 08:44:37 AM
Having had five years with ttnet and nothing but problems I have decided to look at other options. I have been told that Finet is one of the best - does anyone have anything to say on the subject?

Not used them myself but feedback I've had from people who have used them has been pretty mixed. Anyway their website is here....

I have been recommended to change to Aydem, seems that the price is better & so is the customer service (now that wouldn't be difficult!!)

Steve here is a piece. I wrote last year on CBF about finet and its competitor skyfibernet, who both use a line of sight technology, rather than the telephone network, like ttnet or aydem the alternative provider using the same cables and service.

Not much has changed other than there has been a great deal of brits taking up the skyfibernet service, and as far as i can tell all are happy if not delighted with the service they are getting.  Their offices are licated on the back road out if Fethiye, right where the dolmuses come out from the main road tgat runs alongside the main mosque.

If you have problems now with ttnet, particularly those caused by poor grade telephone wires, they will not change with aydem as they use the same cables and infrastructue as ttnet. You'll simply ge getting the same crap service but at a cheaper orice

No we already have fibre optic & I'm told that Aydem don't reduce the speed towards the end of the month, in the event of high usage

What speed do you have with your fibre optic service Liz?

We have Sarnet which is similar to Finet. Speed isn't great but we don't watch hd television anyway.
Cost is only 30 TL per month for real unlimited and there is no contract.
You only pay for the months that you use. Ideal for us since we don't use our house during the summer.

The problem with some of these other providers is that if you get a power cut they are down as well but with TT they have backup

But my modem doesn't work when there's a power cut so that doesn't change anything.

Been with Finet for 7 months - first 3 were very mixed and regular down time - then we went back to UK for 2 months and according to friends it was worse than ever. However, it changed hands in February and as we returned I went in and paid my 30 lira (only pay when using - a month at a time) and it has been excellent since late February.

Went off once and we got a text instantly to tell us they were working on it - but - in Turkish and generally you do need to speak some Turkish as hardly any English is spoken!

We get 3 to 3.5 consistently which as we record on filmon and then download and playback from tablet linked to TV - it works well for us.

The new owner's have spent some money on the new shop frontage and clearly they are running the business better than the previous owners and interestingly we seem to be "on" when Ttnet people say they are off    :)

Then it is almost certain that you do not have a fibre optic service, which is why I asked. Don't feel bad about itco ttnet  sell an up to 16 mbps service as a fibernet service, it is not fibre, it is a 'copper' based service called adsl2 annexe m. Now if they are prepared to sell a service throughout turkey that is not as advertised, i.e its not fibre, what else are they preoared to lie about?
