Title: Kavak
Post by: Highlander on June 14, 2017, 20:04:37 PM
What's the score with Kavak in Callis at present.

Every time I ask for a bottle in a restaurant I am told that they don't have any.

But there are bottles of the stuff in the shops.

Don't know about Kavak have not noticed it on the Wine Lists.  Try this one "H"  Buzbag 26TL in Migros and they have it in the Chill Cabinet in the small Migros near the Dolphinless Roundabout.   Our favourite white wine.

It was 25tl a litre bottle in Asda just last month. Its a sauvignon blanc, bit too dry for me. I,ll stick to the Angora in the clear bottle. its still a dry white wine, Recep at the fish market, got me into it  I had a nice helpful lesson in the Asda shop, they showed me that they are both made by the same people and that Kavac in the green bottle is a slightly less quality, but very drinkable! While it was on offer, I bought both.  ;D ;D 8)

Can`t  you buy a bottle at the supermarket and pay corkage at the restaurant. I would not they would charge very much because when all is said and done they would in effect be getting money for no outlay, which I think would appeal to the restaurant owner vying for custom ,or alternatively, not selling wine.

Casacluggo - I wouldn't dream of doing that in the UK so why would I do it in Turkey.  :)

Because you get the wine you want to drink.   ;)

Perhaps they'd let you bring in food from a different restaurant then, if that was the food you want to eat.

Have you ever done that in the UK Jacqui ?

Possibly cannot remember, most of the places we have eaten over the last 40 years usually have some wine we like, but if I wanted a certain wine in Turkey and was disappointed that restaurants did not have it.  I would ask if I could pay for corkage.

Jacqui forgive me but if your favourite restaurant didn't have Gordons Gin you would take a bottle from the supermarket in and ask if you could pay corkage.

I brought my own bottle to a restaurant in Fethiye - and didn't even offer to pay corkage :o

They were fine about it - I had brought a duty free bottle of champagne to celebrate something or other.

I took the cork out myself anyway  ;)

Gordon's Gin is O.K but I am into the Craft Gins now and the don't have them in Turkey.
We did take our own French Champagne to my son' Wedding in Oludeniz for the toast and they agreed we could have it and did not charge corkage.
I have also taken my own slimline tonic to restaurants in Calis and they are fine with that.
However,I am usually happy to have what is on offer on the wine list.  Often the house wine is fine.

I have bought Pepsi Max from shops next to bars/restaurants as they don't sell it, and they haven't charged me cappage.

My initial point was that Kavak WAS on the wine list.

I know it's not the original post but I must recommend Villa Doluca wines, particularly the better quality Klassic white (blend of Sultaniye and Semillon) and Neo red (a blend of bogazkere, Öküzgözü and kalecik karasi). Unusual blends but definitely the best cheaper wines widely available - and tested by my UK wine group!
