Car owners a warning
« on: March 28, 2008, 10:38:07 AM »
My daughter has just had a really bad few days & is, she had her old Mercedes broken into & the cars paperwork was stolen. The thieves broke a small window to gain access & took the paperwork that was in the glovebox. The car was parked outside her house in Calis. The worse part was replacing the paperwork, it has taken her 2 days to get replacement tax, visa, emmisions test, insurance etc. plus visits to notary, traffic police, police etc. also a replacement window. Luckily she had a turkish friend to help her. She had to pay again for everything. The police said car paperwork is stolen for cars that have been stolen in Istanbal. Dont keep your paperwork inside your car, perhaps keep them in your boot as the hassle it causes when you have to replace it all, is not only expensive but time consuming & makes you feel so mad. At least you can use the email or phone in the UK to sort out this sort of problem. When I said 2 days, that was 2 whole days of going here there & everywhere, most people know what it's like to get paperwork here, it's murder! But then as they all say, this is Turkey :)

Why keep your documents in the car at all?

Because if you are stopped, you are expected to have them there and then.
