I wouldn't recommend using system restore unless you know what you are doing Lance. It can cause all sorts of problems for you.

Try this:

Make Gmail your Homepage - Internet Explorer

1.Start Internet Explorer.

2.Click Tools in the top menu, and select Internet Options at the bottom.

3.In the small window that pops up, look for the Home page section at the top of the General tab.

4.Erase what's currently in that box, and type in the following:
https://mail.google.com

5.Hit the OK button at the bottom

6.Opening up a new tab or window, or restarting IE, will then bring up Gmail for you.

It works as I've just tried it in IE. I use google chrome normally but thought I would try it for you. Now goes directly to my gmail account in - box.

One thing you might have to do though is change your googlemail account to a gmail one. Unless it works with the link in the instructions. Try it first to see what happens.

Stoops good advice should solve the problem you have.  If it does and the problem comes back, during the next few hours or days, you could have a virus that is replacing your web browser preferences with a set of others to make you run your web browsing etc. through a different website.  In which case you'll need to run your virus software to clean it off your machine, and go through Stoops recommendations again.
