Why is it dollars anyway? A tiny percentage of people visiting Turkey are American. Why not Euro or Pounds, or even Lira :o

Probably because they see $ as a more stable place to have their money. Or maybe they buy all their oil with the funds they get from us tourists - saves them having to convert it again  ;)

Suspect its to boost their dollar reserves - as you quite rightly state, its a small percentage of overall visitors that will bring dollars.  The lira has lost a lot of ground against the dollar in the past few years, maybe they think there's something to be gained by increasing their reserves.

On the other hand, it may just be that no major payment processor outside the US is willing to deal with them...

I have NEVER seen any "tiny" Americans, anywhere .

I don't see the point of paying £3.00 each, you still have to queue for the Customs then you can rush downstairs and stand at the luggage carousel and wait for your luggage with all the other people who arrive to stand with you and who saved £3.00 each by getting their visa upstairs, and Sod's law they will get their luggage and be out of the airport before you are.

Me too, I'll happily queue.

The B word is fine, I plan to start my month from next Monday - awaiting a few more sponsors hopefully  :)

It won't make it any quicker for me.
I had my visa the other day but as usual I joined the queue with captain slow as the passport officer. There were people who went and got their visas and joined other queues who got through well before me. Happens every time.

And me - in May last year we got to passport control second, behind one guy, and within seconds all the queues were long. Great stuff. Then I heard the man in front of me..."no, 90...in 180...now count yourself...these are your rules, your rules not mine..."

Wrong again :(
