Meds Needed for Uzumlu Baby
« on: August 10, 2014, 18:30:43 PM »
I have copied this from Umut Cakir's post on Facebook - can anyone help please?

Dear friends
There is a very sick two years old baby here in uzumlu, and needs help, we are only looking for a drug cold LEUCOVORIN contains ( calcium folinate ). 15 mg tablets, 10 in the box.
Unfortunately we can't find them in turkiye, if any of you out there heard about this drug, or know where to get it from, or can get it for us, please let me know. I have been told it's about 15 or 16 turkish lira. Which is £5. Baby's parents ready to pay whatever is the cost.
Thank you ever so much already.

It's a drug that's used during Chemotherapy. Has anyone tried contacting the Oncology Departments at Antalya or Izmir University Hospital ?

On researching on the internet it appears that it will only be given here in Uk if you have a prescription issued by a doctor, so i think it will be impossible to purchase and send.

I think the best idea has been suggested, an oncology dept may be able to help you.

Hopefully you get some soon

Not so sure they are unavailable in Turkey.  Try using the barcode reference 8699638012060 in an eczane as they should be able to order them.

KKOB is right, it is used during chemo so why don't they go back to whoever prescribed the chemo drugs?

sunlover & JohnF, thank you for trying to help. The baby has been treated in Antalya but the hospital there doesn't have any of this drug.

I know it's a long shot, but perhaps someone doing a day trip to Rhodes might be able to obtain this medication.  That's what we were advised to do when we were unable to obtain an important drug here.

Not sure why a hospital prescribes a drug they haven't got, but could they not source it for them
