How much do you guys tip? I was thinking about this the other day & it dawned on me i probably tip the same now as i did over there 15 or more years ago, i think i may have gone from over tipping to under lol... BUT as the exchange rate certainly is better for us at the moment, what do you think is an ok tip?  :)

Optional but 10-15% on a meal but only if it's what you expected or better,if not good no tip.Drinks only, usually just a bit loose change, same with taxis about 5-10 lira again based upon how long, how good the journey and the driver.

Like Steve I tip about the same but tip nothing if things weren't near on perfect.

Unlike Steve I never tip taxis - the Turks don't.

I don't tip by percentage. The fact that I've paid 55tl for a steak rather than 20tl for a burger does not need any more service from them.
Does anybody know how tips are shared among staff?

Taxis: Round it up

Bar: same again

Cheap Restaurant: A few lira, no more than 5%

Expensive restaurant: 5% - maybe more if the service has been outstanding.

Folks from the UK generally tip too much and it makes a lot of staff then expect high tips from the British.

Think we're guilty of that from what you've just said John! May have a re-think next time.

I've been guilty of it myself often enough, especially after a few rakis!
