Pangasius is a type of cat fish some imported from Vietnam.    I will just give it a miss.
Had a lovely Haddock Fish Supper tonight from Peterhead the biggest white fish port in Europe.  The supper was lovely.

There's always been a lot of propaganda regarding the import of panga fish.

Don't see a problem really, most fish feed on rubbish, mullet for instance, normally found around sewage outlets.

The best fish you will get in the area at present is Charcoal Palace,in fact all of his food is fantastic and very reasonable. As for Panga ,so what all fish live on crap whether they are bottom feeders, forgive the pun or sewage eaters .Dont believe the hype and don't let it put you off this place, give it a try.

It would be ironic if people who live/holiday on the shore of the world's most polluted sea turn their nose up at other people's fish.

I bought some fish fillets from Tesco here in the UK , called River Cobbler . someone told me to look it up online and very similar " river cobbler,  basa fish species of Pangasius catfish"  fished in one of the most polluted rivers in the world in Vietnam.

Cant comment on the taste as they went straight to the bin

There is a lot of misinformation about this fish on the internet. I suggest people do their own research and decide for themselves...

Worked in the largest fish market in Europe in Billingsgate London since 1978 fish has massively changed over the years we have also sold pangus fish on the company I work for, not that often to be truthful but it will never harm you as people in the above threads have said do your own homework but to be truthful sometimes you are better not to as you may find out your favourite dish may not be anymore.
Bit of sauce or batter makes it very tasty lol

Do people always check the dietary habits of all creatures before eating their flesh.?

Do they demand to know what has been poured over their crops before devouring them?

Did anyone die from the Horse meat scandal.?   Neigh.!!     Eat and be merry or die of fright.

Agree 100%.  The major fish importers, who in turn supply places like Tesco, Iceland etc, are not going to risk their businesses by importing fish that may harm the end consumer.  The panga is farmed all over SE Asia and eaten on a regular basis by millions - I'm not one of those millions, but that's simply because I find the flavour a touch neutral.  No other reason.

Did anyone die from the Horse meat scandal.?

Nothing wrong with horse meat, in fact quite the reverse.  All over the low countries and in the north of France its still very popular, and with good reason.  Its delicious!

Go to any market town in the north east of France and on a Saturday you'll see the horse butchers (Boucheries Chevalines) vans with their refrigerated displays of sausages, pates, steaks and so on.

Current UK Gov dietary advice is to eat two portions of oily fish a week. Does "oily fish" include Scottish North Sea haddock?

We went to Charcoal Palace the other night.
Tried the fish and chips but was not a fan of the fish at all.  I did not like the texture or taste at all but I will say that the better and chips were spot on.  Perfectly crisp and grease free.  It's just a pity haddock is not available here as he has everything else right.

Agree with that completely Anne.
First visit we really enjoyed it but I did think the fish itself  a bit mushy/sloppy.   I thought maybe I was being fussy because I don't particularly like fish but love good chips, mushy peas, crisp batter etc  All the other food was fab and I was happy to recommend to others .    Second visit, I left the fish but ate everything else as it was delicious.  Best batter ever but I couldn't recommend  the actual fish -

We bought Basa from one of the supermarkets, frozen. It was appalling, like fish substitute made in a laboratory. Never again...
