Car purchase
« on: April 29, 2018, 21:57:05 PM »
We are moving to Turkey to live very soon and want some advise on buying a car. Prefer a 4x4 but can I get a descent second hand model in the Fethiye area or am I better off buying new ?

Any help very much appreciated.

Stuart

You need to consider the tax on a 4x4 Stu - if it is a new, larger engine vehicle you may be taxed literally thousands of lira a year.

Certainly explains why there are so many old bangers on the road...  :)

Second-hand vehicles are far more expensive to buy than in the UK. You've got the added advantage though, that they don't tend to suffer so badly from rust like UK vehicles.

Hi Scunner, yes looked into the tax angle quite a lot. I know I won’t be getting the same 4l V8 I have over here. Was looking at a Kia Sportage, tax on that isn’t too bad.

But are there any descent second hand dealers or should I just buy new so I know it’s been serviced etc ?

Thanks

I'd steer clear of the secondhand dealers and have a good look around the main dealerships.

Just be aware that the Sportage comes in both front 2-wheel drive, and with a 4x4 drivetrain depending on the model.

The best thing about second hand cars in Turkey is that they don't lose their value the same as they do in The UK and the repairs etc are much cheaper.. You don't have to wait a fortnight to book them in either..
