Title: Repairing a Microwave
Post by: UzumluH2o on November 27, 2007, 14:46:53 PM
Does anyone know of an Engineer capable of repairing a microwave/combination oven. Its an Asda/Chinese import and the fan and light works but the rotating plate and magnetron don't appear too.

Ta Phill

I would imagine that the rotating plate and magnetron only work with the door closed (whereas oven functions work all the time?)so it could be that the microwave doesn't know it's door is closed? There must be a switch that is operated by the door - try checking this?
I'm not a domestic appliance man but you never know.

BTW If you are not confident enough or competent to do this THEN DON'T. Touch the wrong bit and you'll know about it - hopefully....

As you head out of Fethiye on the one-way system, just before the Fire Station is the turning for the mountain road to Kaya. There's an electrical repairer on that corner. I've never used him myself but apparently he re-conditions a lot of electrical items, including microwaves, and sells them.

Thanks for all your suggestions, both good and bad. I ended up going to my mate Bekir at Erin Spot. He pointed me to the Indesit engineers and within 2 days they had a new control board (Bloody Tedas mucking about with the elec again) sent down from Istanbul and up and working for 60YTL.

That's pretty good going - ours died and we took it back to the Vestel shop we bought it from 2 weeks ago. We still await a fixed microwave.

Actually, the three guys who were working in the Vestel shop who gathered to look at said microwave said we had brought to the wrong place (silly me, bringing it back to the shop I bought it in) - and informed it needed to be taken to Vestel service, on the 'Antalya' road out of Fethiye.

I asked if they didn't take them to their service place, and was told they didn't have a car (between 3 of them).

Funny really, because they were so helpful when I spent 5000 lira with them.
