Mount Nemrut - East Terrace
« on: October 24, 2017, 09:35:21 AM »
A few months ago Dogan and I went to Mount Nemrut for the second time after a previous unsuccessful attempt in the middle of winter. Here's some photos of the stone heads taken at sunrise and sunset.

Sunrise

Sunset

And one of Dogan with snow balls saved by the guards and reminiscent of our first visit where we couldn't get close because the whole place was buried in the stuff  :-\

How tall are those heads? Are they really as imposing as they always look on photographs? Or are they one metre high and a bit of a disappointment?

It's a minimum 15 hour drive from Fethiye Bernie.

It's well worth the effort especially if you combine it with stops in Aksaray, Konya and Malatya

Varying heights Colwyn. I was impressed. Which is pretty good for a cynical old git like me.  ;)

Thanks Bernie, Sadler and Incir  :D

In answer to your question Colwyn when I first saw the heads on the East Terrace where they stood having fallen at some point off their bodies (earthquake tremor most likely I'm told) I was surprised that they weren't a bit bigger than I had expected. However some of the heads on the West Terrace - separate post coming up soon - I think may be bigger.

It's still a very impressive sight - these might give you a little more perspective
