Title: Airline refunds
Post by: charlste on March 23, 2020, 19:43:54 PM
If we are not allowed to fly to turkey as advised by the foreign office does that mean the airlines will refund our flight cost?
I did receive an email from easyjet asking if i wanted to reschedule my flight.

We had one of the first cancellations - not directly because of the Coronavirus but because of poor bookings on our flight in anticipation of Coronavirus issues globally.

Easyjet emailed to let us know we could change to another flight or take a full refund. We chose to move to another flight we probably won't see :(

Would you be able to change it again Keith or can you only do it the once?

Wouldn't your travel insurance cover you if it's Government advice not to travel ?

I need to be clear - our flight was cancelled due to poor take up/ticket sales. This may have been indirectly influenced by concerns about Coronavirus but at the time of the cancellation there was no reason why the flight couldn't have happened.

When was your flight originally booked for Keith ?

Sorry for the delay mate, EasyJet scrubbed the initial booking when we swapped to another. The initial trip was booked on 19th December for flights leaving on 21st March. Cancellation email arrived 2nd March.

If easyjet cancel a flight then they have to offer a refund. They will always try to get you to change your flight and I understand the government might allow them to offer a credit note only in order to stop some airlines going under.

I would take a credit note to be honest.

For cancellations and refunds you will need to contact our Customer Service team. Please note that we can only issue refunds to the person or company who paid for the booking. Please note that refunds may be made to your original payment method(s) via multiple partial refunds (up to the amount of the total refund due). If booked through a tour operator, travel agent or OTA, please contact your tour operator, travel agent or our ground crew to change your flights. If you have booked with eJ holidays, please contact them directly.

We are currently experiencing extremely high call volumes at the contact centre and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

My friend booked a holiday to Calis for May.  Sunshine holidays emailed her last week asking if she wanted to cancel the holiday.  They said there would be a £30 admin charge and a percentage reduction on the balance.  NO WAY !  I advised her to wait until Sunshine cancelled at which time, they will have to offer a refund. I also have a booking with Travel-republic but I haven’t heard anything. Travel-republic are using EasyJet whilst sunshine are using Freebird which is a Turkish airline.

I have a flight with easyjet for 15th April.  I have had an email asking if I want to change my booking but nothing about a refund.  I am going to wait until they inform me that the flight is cancelled.

I had a flight with easyJet for 30th March when I logged into my account last week, the option was there to change or refund flights. I went for the refund as I’ve got flights for May, as my son was/is getting married in Calis. Still haven’t got the money back yet.

Funny how organisations can take your money in the blink of an eye, yet it takes days, weeks and sometimes months to get refunds.

Up until sometime yesterday ( I forget what time it was I logged in yesterday ) Easyjet were showing flights to Dalaman up to end of April, now today there are no flights showing for April they are all showing as sold out.

Copied from the North Wales Daily Post:

How to get your money back

EasyJet says customers whose flights have been cancelled can get either a full refund, a voucher for the value of their original booking, or an alternative flight of the same price.

The airline says affected customers will be contacted to discuss their options.

If people wish to get in touch themselves, they can call 0330 365 5000, but are being warned to expect long delays.

They can also manage their bookings online.

EasyJet told the BBC: "Customers on cancelled flights can transfer to an alternative flight free of charge or receive a voucher for the value of their booking online or claim a refund through our contact centre.

"We are experiencing higher than average wait times so we would thank customers for their patience and assure them that these entitlements will be available long after their cancelled flight has flown."

Baffled by second paragraph - a cancelled flight that flew ????

Not sure whether the airlines will attempt to apply this rule:

Marc Vincent, the finance director of Newmarket Holidays, said the UK needs to follow the example of other EU governments, which have overturned consumer protection rules requiring travel firms to pay customer refunds within 14 days.

Vincent said a switch to credit notes, which can be used to buy a holiday at a later date or redeemed for cash after two years, would protect hundreds of travel firms that have usually paid in advance for airline tickets and hotels that are also in lockdown.

Has anyone had a flight cancelled through Turkish Airlines yet, just wandering what their procedures are.
Our flights aren't until the end of May (don't for one minute think restrictions will of been lifted by then).
Hoping to may be transfer them to a later date?

Hi MarKar, I imagine they'll contact you nearer your flight time if they are going to cancel your flight or offer you an alternative. My hubby has booked with TA for mid July but hasn't had a confirmation email off them yet. He's hopeful his flight will still go ahead.

We were flying to Portugal via Easyjet on the 15th April.  Flight was cancelled and they made us aware the same as others - change flight or get an ATOL protected 'refund voucher'. We opted to change our flights.  Just go to manage your booking and select which option you want.  Our flights to Albuferia cost £200 and we were able to exchange them for return flights to Dalaman late July for no extra fee.  We were well chuffed!  If we had booked on their website without this exchange the same flights would have cost us £1100 return.  For some reason they also added in free hold baggage. Everything now come through (invoice, booking etc) and as long as we are able to fly at that time all we have to do is check-in online with nothing else to pay.

Due to go to Calis from Glasgow on 9 May for 14 nights. Booked flight and hotel with TravelRepublic.  This morning I received an email from them saying they will not be taking any further payments, if any due, which will not affect any future refunds etc.  They said they will be in touch next week to update me on the situation.

We booked to fly with easyJet on 5th may . Easyjet still selling tickets for this date but we know they will cancel soon .
Feel there out of order selling tickets they know they will cancel . Then not let people get refunds .
I’m still waiting for a refund from last month when they cancelled my flight back from Morocco. Luckily I took a screenshot on the day I claimed a refund and it says it is being processed. Now it only gives you the option of changing flight or a voucher

Easyjet just cancelled our 18/05 flights. We can rebook at no extra cost but even their twitter people don’t understand the terms. They told me any flight difference would be charged.

Not so..

When our flight was cancelled last month Easyjet were offering no charge changes.  We moved our April £100pp flight to late July flights to Dalaman that were £550 each.  We still may not be able to go but we have had confirmation that there is nothing else to pay so worth looking at this option.

Expect EASYJET cancellations for all of JUNE website showing flight full for all flights?
Title: Re: Airline refunds
Post by: DavidNicholson on May 14, 2020, 10:53:15 AM
We had an email from easyjet for a flight that is getting near, saying that although it had not yet been cancelled they realised that we might want to pull out and they offered a voucher with (I think) £20 uplift OR a change to any flight, any destination, any time, any price with no extra to pay.

That seemed tempting to book a bit later in the year, BUT, the "condtions" below the main text indicated that if that option was taken then there would be no refunds if the new flights were subsequently cancelled.

Not 100% certain that I am right about that but I think that is correct.

Now received a receipt for total refund from Jet2 for the flight we were supposed to be on today.
Nice to have receipts, only problem is they haven’t sent any money !
Guess what is a no reply/non monitored mailbox and you’ve guessed it they aren’t taking any calls unless urgent.

We were due to be on a cruise (right now actually) with TUI. Cancelled obviously. They are releasing discount codes in date order to keep volume down. You can get a +20% credit if you rebook rather than cancel. But you can't cancel without first receiving your discount code.

We decided to get back in control and take a refund (although we are keen on a cruise next year) and phoned for a refund. Absolute nightmare - I had to call over 120 times just to get into the queue - then spent nearly 1 hour queueing and got cut off, then 2 hours one minute and got cut off. Then 1 hour 30 minutes and got answered.

In fairness, that's when the pain ended. The TUI customer service lady was lovely, we chatted about TUI cruise ships, itineraries, ports etc (while processing refunds, not wasting time & keeping others waiting longer in the queue. She also mentioned that some people had been absolutely hateful to her, and her colleagues. These people didn't invent Coronavirus and nor did TUI.

My refund was processed and I was told 5 days would be about average for it to appear back on my card. That was Wednesday and it turned up on Thursday.

Easyjet have now removed the no cost change of flights offer for those going to Turkey. They now offer it to "European flights" but exclude Turkey and a few others. Their old offer was anywhere "in our network".

Seems they have changed it just before the summer flights come out next week.

Hi stoop

Is there a specific date next week when EasyJet will publish their summer flight schedule?
Do you know if they will be offering an "early bird" discount?
I've booked accommodation in Calis for May/June next year, hoping that the current travel restrictions will have been lifted.   :)

Not Turkey but an example of how quick and easy it can be to get a refund.
Yesterday evening ,arrived home to find email from EasyJet saying our flights to Malaga on 24th July cancelled and giving 3 options, voucher, rebook or refund.
I clicked on the refund link which was supposed to take me to an online refund request form.It didn’t ,it took me round the system back to the start.
I then used the contact us form explaining the situation and requesting a refund.
At 5am I received an acknowledgment of my request and confirmation that my refund had been processed.Checked just now lo and behold I have my refund, what excellent service.
