Health insurance
« on: December 13, 2014, 04:48:29 AM »
We took out our health insurance this week (for residency) at the place next to Macdonalds Fethiye.
The lady told us that few insurers will cover over 60s but their company covered to 65.
After 65 she said nobody would insure us.
Does SGK go beyond 65 ?
She also said that the premium for SGK no longer covers a family but an individual (for the same cost) - true ?
So is it the case that you are 'on your own' after 65 ?

As I understand it the present rules are the SGK monthly payment covers a married couple (not a family). It covers beyond 65 but if the wife has her own pension they each have to pay the monthly premium. However if you are over 65 you are, strangely, not required to have health insurance.
Be aware however that the SGK seem to be constantly moving the goalposts at the moment....
