Many great cover versions of songs have been done over the years, I find this cover of the Nine Inch Nails song "Hurt" covered by Johnny Cash just before his death in 2003 a moving, enigmatic, evocative rendition of the song, originally written about the despair and dark depths of drug addiction.

Hurt is a brilliant choice and a great song.
I also like Siouxsie and the Banshees Dear Prudence originally from The Beatles and Bryan Ferry A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall which came out 10 years after Bob Dylan first released it.

Total agreement with All Along The Watchtower by Hendrix, and also love Byron Ferrari's Hard Rain is Gonna' Fall, also like his version of Jealous Guy - but here's another from "The Man in Black" I'm afraid (must be having a Johnny Cash day !) - a cover of U2's "One";

Not a cover version in quite the same way but the BBC's version of Lou Reed's Perfect Day was sensational - even Lou Reed said so :)

Well after the morose heavy cover songs from the "man in Black", let's lighten things up a little with Rolf's take on the classic Led Zepplin track Stairway to Heaven - not a brilliant cover just good for a laugh :D

A MySpace/Facebook friend of mine did this cover of Elenor Rigby. It's through the 'Beatles on Ukulele' project and I love her version.

My musical taste is eclectic and not always normal. That said, I think this version of the classic "The Message" originally by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five is fantastic. Cover versions, correct me if I am wrong, shouldn't sound just like the original - which in this case was a most mellow affair. This one isn't. Give it a listen - it probably isn't for you but at least try it the once for me ;)

Just looked on you tube at several Disturbed posts. Must say, I am disappointed. Totally not my taste, but "The sound of silence" is absolutely brilliant.
-
That cover version of The Sound of Silence by Disturbed is so powerful and full of emotion. Brilliant.
-
I agree Dennis, but rather wish I hadn't bothered to look them up! Absolutely weird!
-
Highlander - fully agree with Sadler.
Goosebumps.
He sang as if he felt every word...
-
Just listened to this too, amazing voice. Brilliant version, like others have said it gives you goosebumps! :o
-
Highlander, what have you done to me. I keep playing it over and over. Absolutely love, love, love it! :)think I will include it in my list of things for the children to do at my final party! :D ;D ;)
-
:o ;D ;D ;D what a great idea sadler!

I feel exactly the same sadler - made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I first heard it -thank you Meri Bar :)
-
I hope they are still playing it when we get there in October! :)
-
Trouble is, if they play it while I am there, I will think I am at my wake! Seriously was so moved by it. Love it so much. Fields of gold by Eva Casady has got a rival. ;D
-
Aah, another favourite of mine Sadler! :)
-
OMG - Eva Cassidy's Fields of Gold was playing on the CD at Letoon on the very first day I went down to breakfast there.
The gorgeous Nevra (see below) was the only other person there and when I looked out at the vista I honestly believed that I had died and gone to heaven.

PS Ladies - we seem to have lots in common :)
-
Good taste Highlander, that's what we've got! :) ;)
-
Highlander and Marina, when they play Fields of Gold by Eva and then Sounds of Silence by Disturbed, I will know that I have ended up in heaven, (against all the odds). ;D ;D ;D
-
Sadly sadler, I fear I maybe heading in the other direction :(
-
Me too. See you there. At least we will always be warm!
-
Actually Highlander, I can think of no other person I know who deserves to go up, but, wherever we end up, the music will be good. :)
-
No, can't imagine any of us have been that bad! I'll see you both 'up top' but not for some time yet I hope! ;)
And look forward to the music!

Ray Charles wrote a song called "You Don't Know Me" a few years back. It's been covered by Buble and a few others but I think this one blows them all away. I have this on CD and often listen to it in the car.
